c-section moms..2questions

I have my 10 day check up tomorrow to look at my incision so I'll be taking off the surgi strips today.  My question is that the incision is very itchy and I'm not sure if there's anything I can put on it.  How did you ladies deal with the healing incision?

My other question is how long did the swelling last in your face, hands, tummy (not just the fat that I gained but the puffiness), and feet?  I thought by 10 days it would be gone.  Any insight would be appreciated!

TIA

I have my 10 day check up tomorrow to look at my incision so I'll be taking off the surgi strips today.  My question is that the incision is very itchy and I'm not sure if there's anything I can put on it.  How did you ladies deal with the healing incision?  Mine did not itch, maybe you could lightly rub on it through your clothes if it is itching that bad.

My other question is how long did the swelling last in your face, hands, tummy (not just the fat that I gained but the puffiness), and feet?  I thought by 10 days it would be gone.  Any insight would be appreciated!  About a week, but you need to drink a ton of water!  Drinking water is the only thing that will help the swelling go down, sounds like it will make it worse, but you are working with osmosis.

    TIA

  • I did not have any itching, so I never put anything on it.  I am sure your OB can give you something to put on it.  I just washed it gently with warm soapy water in the shower to clean it.  My swelling was completely gone in about 3 weeks.  I was VERY swollen from 3 days of getting fluids.

Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d, via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress.  Seizures, IVH grade 2, brain injury, kidney and liver damage.  Complete blood clot in the artery in his right arm.  27 days in the NICU.  Now discharged from all specialists, excepts his kidney doctor, who will monitor him indefinitely.  My tough little cookie.

  • oddly my incision never itched.  I went 9 days pp and had staples taken out, then had steristrips put on.  I'm skiddish with stuf like that so i left them on until they were about to fall off lol, finally took them off last weds right before my 4 week pp appointment.  Dr said it looked great.

The fluid retention, literally woke up one morning and everything went away, no more swelling ankles or anything.  I think i was one of the lucky ones with puffyiness everywhere else.

You may have wicked night sweats (i did anyway) soon, thats apparently a way the body gets rid of the fluids.

at your appt tomorrow, i'd ask what to do with the itchyness.  maybe a lotion?  not sure if thats allowed so close to the surgery.

  • Neosporin helped with the pain and itching.

And like someone else said, drink lots and lots of water to help get rid of the swelling. It'll help flush your system.

  • I was told to NOT put anything on it. It needs to dry out and heal and any kind of ointment will prolong that process. I would not put anything on it until your appt for sure.?
  • I didn't itch so I never had to put anything on it.  I just wet it in the shower and pat dry.

The swelling was totally gone by 1 week.  When I went home from the hospital 4 days after it was the worse but by day 7 my skinny feet and ankles were back.  Everyone is different as to how much swelling and when it goes away.

  • i onlyh ad internal stitches and externally i was glued together.  they removed the bandages the next day.  mine itched a bit but was more sore than anything.  my dr. said i could use dermoplast and they gave me some before i left the hospital.

with the swelling, i had bad swelling for like a week and half.  but i kept drinking water and walking around.  night sweats also, yes this happened to me.

i mean, you are having major surgery, so it's going to take you a few weeks to recover.  i'm still not feeling THAT great.

  • Mine incision itched and I would scratch close to it but not on it.  I never put anything on it.  It stopped after about a week.  I never had any swelling but I would think drinking lots of water would help.

  • I am still itching 2 months later! My doc said that the itching is your muscles coming back. She said that any thing that was fragrance free is fine. I have gotten to where I can ignore mine! My swelling was gone by the time I left the hospital.
  • Mine wasn't really itchy until about 2 months, so I don't realy know about that.  My swelling went away after about 2 weeks.
