hehe . . . I just saw a post on GP mentioning reporting an alcoholic pregnant girl to child services and am thrilled to see it but question the effectiveness of child protective service agencies to help when services are so few and far between due to the economy. ?
The economy is putting more families under stress, and filings are up. Last year there were more filings than there have been since 1993. ?But services have been decimated - things like anger management, parenting classes, NA, AA, nurturing parent groups, in home services to check up on families accused of neglect, foster homes and residential placements. It is going to be rough.
Want to clarify before I get flamed - the 'hehe' is only because I defend parents and children in these cases - NOT because neglect is inherently funny. (It sometimes can be, but that is a different story.)

BGG - I am board hopping because I saw your post. I agree that the amount of services that are provided are overwhelmed. I am Florida and we have judges here that won't even listen to any abuse/neglect allegations in family court unless they have been reported to child services first. We have also had a crack down recently because of kids that have fallen through the cracks and have been killed. One is even "lost" and presumed dead! I always advice my clients that if they feel the abuse/neglect is present to report it. Even if child services can't help right away, there is a pattern and some history.?
Yes. ?We can't get educational GALS at all anymore and getting one for our severe injury cases is harder than it should be.
(I am not sure why a court would hear any abuse case not reported to child services, but maybe you are talking divorce probate cases, or maybe your courts are just set up differently than ours in Mass.)?
I am talking about divorces. Well, and DV cases too. Some many people use false abuse allegations to try and get a "leg up" in a divorce or to get the house in DV court. The judges here are just fed up with it and said if it wasn't serious enough for you to call child services, it's not serious enough for me to consider it. We also enacted a statute making it mandatory for someone who suspect abuse or neglect to report it, so the judge's bring that up too.?
The false allegations are horrible - they are using the valuable resources but how do you distinguish between the two without using resources. We could write back and forth about this forever!! It is nice to know there is someone else here that works within "the system."?
