Happy with Daycare until today . . .

DD has been attending her daycare/school since January (6 weeks). I've felt that she has been well taken care of until today - I showed up and DD had dried spit up all over her face and the back of her head (crusty all in her hair at the nape of her neck) and she had a dirty diaper (I could smell it before I even picked her up and she was sitting practically in the teacher's lap). The notes on her feeding were very unclear - there was a whole bottle left in the fridge but the notes said that she had been given all 3 of the bottles that I sent in (they explained that she had 1/2 of the first bottle at 9:30am, the other half at 1:30pm and then another bottle at 2pm??? Most days DD can barely go 3 hours between feedings so I'm not buying it).  I'm afraid she was given someone else's bottle???

I plan to talk to the director in the morning - please tell me I have the right to be upset and am not over reacting. They seemed short handed in the infant room (usually there are 4 or 5 when I pick up in the afternoon and 1 teacher; today there were SEVEN babies and only 1 teacher but the state of GA allows up to EIGHT infants with 1 teacher - rediculous!)

Ok - rant is over. Thanks for listening/reading.

  • I wouldn't go in hot headed, but I would say something.  First about how her room seemed a little full, then about how you found your daughter.  But when dd's room is out of ratio by even one child, I say something.  Yes, I'm that mom so just realize that.  I speak up when there is something that I don't think is quite right.  They explain it, and off we go.  GL!

  • Thanks for the advice. I think it was a blessing in disguise that the director wasn't in her office when I picked up DD - I would have been too hot headed at that point.I'll talk to her in the morning when I drop off DD.

My mom put it best - I am my daughter's advocate. She can't speak for herself so I need to speak up for her. I know this is not standard operation for my daughter's school, but I want them to know that it did not go unnoticed and that I don't expect that to be the norm.

  • There is no excuse for what they did but keep it cool when you talk to the director. I have a zero tolerance policy, I would start looking. Where I live we have tons of options but your situation may be different.

  • I would be very upset about the dried spit up...it's not like that just happened and the provider hadn't gotten to clean her up yet.  It's obvious it was there for a while...I can't imagine what the reason for that would be.

Definitely mention it and see what they say.  If this kind of thing continues I would start looking for another provider.  But, if it was just one super crazy day I would get past it.

  • My talk with the director went well today. I didn't lose my cool but was firm and direct. I'll let you guys know if/when I see improvement and/or if I start looking elsewhere. Thanks for all of the advice!

  • When I went in for pick up on Friday, there was an extra teacher in DD's classroom. According to the log, she had been changed more often and kept DD on a better schedule.(records were much more detailed). So I definitely saw improvement. We'll stay put for now, but if it happens again, I'll start looking.
