NBR: Clothes dryer ran all night?!!?!?!?

I put a load in before bed, I fell asleep and when I got up this morning...it was still going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck!!!! I thought it stopped on its own? It was on the regular setting...tell me there is some setting on yours that tumbles the clothes very once in a while to keep them from wrinkling...I am almost afraid to see the electric bill now.  I did call my mom in a panic...she thinks it will only add about 20 bucks to the bill......

Re: NBR: Clothes dryer ran all night?!!?!?!?

  • Mine has an extended tumble setting that keeps on going (not sure if it ever stops on its own... I've never let it go long enought to see), but I think some do stop & then tumble every once in a while like you said. That sucks!

  • If you don't have an extended cycle than you may want to have it looked at.  Also never let it run while you're out of the house and for now I wouldn't run it while you're sleeping.  Two of my friends have lost there homes by leaving their dryers running while they were out of the house.  Our heating element went all funky one day and when I went to check on the dryer (there was a weird smell) It was glowing red from the heat, and it had been set to low. Tongue Tied
  • Ditto took - I would have been more freaked out by the potential fire hazard than the electric bill. Definitely check out your dryer, and never leave it running when you're asleep or out of the house. Fires caused by clothes dryers are a lot more common than you might think.

  • I know, I feel so stupid, I have a big fear of fires and I never leave any appliance running unattended...I fully meant to go check on the clothes but I fell asleep, I will def not be doing that again.  I am going to have my BIL look at it...he is an electrical engineer...not a repair man...but, he fixes everything...
  • I had this happen about a month ago.  I my old dryer took a crap and I bought a new one.  They installed the new one and I was totally excited to do laundry (lame, I know)  I did a few loads and it worked great!  I put a load in the dryer before I went to work in the morning and I didn't get down to get the clothes until about 7 PM.  The dryer was running.  I thought that DH did a load of laundry for me, DUH.  I should have know better.  It was the same load I put in that morning.  The clothes were not warm at all, but were dry.  I called the place where I got the dryer and they said something about 220v fuse blown and that it was running off of 110v alone which would not signal the dryer to quit running.  So check your fuses or BIL

Sorry for the ramble, but HTH!

  • Thanks! I will let him know to check that
