I think you might find that difficult after awhile. Your baby might not even like it; mine didn't. Once they're past the bassinet part of it, the bottom is not very comfy for sleeping. You can find inexpensive cribs all over the place if that's the issue, but I would feel terrible for making my little one sleep in the uncomfortable PNP any longer than the first few months.
Once your little one learns to pull him/herself up, jumping in the crib becomes a favorite pasttime! I don't think a PnP would stand up to that kind of abuse very long!
(If you meant a bassinet, though, I'm with you there. I gave away a lot of my baby gear from DS#1, and the bassinet is the first thing to get cut off the "must have" list for DS#2.)
We have PNP for the bassinet purposes for the first couple of weeks. We have a crib in the nursery as well. I am worried that the bassinet in PNP is not comfy enough, haven't even thought for having it instead of the crib itself. Not a good idea.
We have a bassinet and a PnP. We are moving 6 weeks or so after baby is born so we saw no point in setting up a full-blown nursery until after our move. So baby will sleep in either the bassinet or PnP til after that.
