DD is petrified of the toilet

I was hoping maybe we could have her PTed by the time I go back to work because she will most likely be going to part-time preschool.

She has pretty Tinkerbelle underwear, a potty book and I told her about the whole M&M thing.  No dice, she is completely frightened of the toilet and demands that we put a diaper on her.

She is definitely not ready but I'm wondering if she ever will be.  Her crazy fear of it is making me worried it's goona be a huge problem when we decide to try again.

  • By toilet you mean actual toilet, right? Have you tried a potty-seat?

  • maybe try a potty chair.  We really like the Baby Bjorn one.
  • You can try the little insert thingy so she feels more secure but I also remember that Luke used to be terrified.  I think he thought he was going to fall in....he got over it but I swore he was going to be the only kindergartener in pull ups! :)

  • She's still pretty young and my DD reacts the same way.  I would put everything away and revisit it in a few months.

No, that will be Ben!! We did the potty-seat first, too. We recently got him a potty-ring than he picked out in our attempt to get him using the toilet full-time again. We have the Fisher-Price Royal Potty. It plays music when they pee in it and both love it. Emily just likes to sit on it, for now.

  • We have a potty chair.  I just tried to put her on the toilet w/the insert after talking her into wearing her undies and she flipped.  Obviously a bad idea and a setback.  It's not just the toilet either...it's anything related to PTing.  She's just not ready...I just hope that the fear is fleeting because she will have to PT eventually ("ready" or not).
  • DD is the same way and it is with both the regular potty and her little potty. ?We are waiting because I'm worried if I try to force it it will be worse. ?

  • We used a sticker chart with good results. Ry was all about the stickers.

  • My DD is petrified of all things PT-related too (burst into tears of fear when she pooped in the bathtub). I'm taking it as a sign not to tackle PT yet.
