FF moms- a potentially dumb question

Which do you put in the bottle first- the powder or the water? And if it is the water, do you fill it to the amount desired and then add the powder? Carson is taking 3-4 ounces now so I make her 4 ounce bottles. I put in 4 ounces of water then the powder. But this ends up making almost 4.5 ounces. Is this right? or do you put in slightly less water? Or powder first?

  • Always add powder to water.

There is usually instructions on the side of the container if you forget.

  • This is correct.  DO NOT put the powder in first, the concentration of what your DD will be eating will NOT be correct.  Yes, it makes a little more than 4oz. but that's okay...DD is also eating 4oz right now and sometimes she doesn't finish it all which is okay because we know it's really almost 4.5oz.  Water first, then powder!!!

On here nope sorry.  IMO there isn't a "dumb" question when it comes to parenting!  The reason why it goes to 4.5 oz is because the powder adds "weight" to the water in turn rising it.  Some formula's actually state this on the can.  So technically DC is still only eating 4 oz.  You are doing it right! No worries.
