Sleepsack Question - Cold Hands...

We are weaning DS from the Miracle Blanket because he keeps breaking out of it. So sad because I adore the MB! Anyway, we used a Sleepsack last night, and DS slept a long time (yay!). But when he woke up, his hands were freezing. I don't even own any of those mitten things that I have seen for little babies to keep them from scratching. It's not very cold here, and DS really likes to suck on his hands. For those of you who use Sleepsacks, do you cover your baby's hands?

  • No, I don't cover his hands, but that might mean he's too cold.

  • Gavin has been in sleep sacks since day 1 and his hands are always freezing.  He has on a onesie, pjs, socks and the sleepsack.  We have his room on 70 degrees.  His pedi said it is fine and he is really not cold it is just due to circulation and lack of movement while sleeping.
  • I agree with the above post....I heard the same thing about cold hands. My little guy has cold hands every time I get him up to eat at night; he's in regular jammies and his room is around 70 like yours. He likes to suck his hands too so I've avoided those mitten thingys; I have this fear he'd get one pulled off and stuck in his mouth. I've read that as long as their chest and body is warm, you're okay.
  • I had the same problem with my DD.  When she was younger I used scratch mitts for a short time, but she loves to suck her fingers, so I stopped putting them on her.  Her hands are freezing some nights, but we'll be sweating if I turn the heat up any higher.  I don't think much can be done.  The rest of her body is warm though.
  • Same thing here - it doesn't bother him so I don't worry about it.  I do try to warm them up when he wakes up to eat.  But really I know the mittens would bother him more because, like PP's said, he loves to suck on his hands.
