So, my sister got called in to her Dr. and was told she had lesions on her cervix.?
The lab results came back and it is pre-cancerous. The treatment is to freeze the spots off and for 85% of people that does the trick. She is handling the dx okay, but it was not fun news to hear. She will have to have a few more regular check-ups until they are sure it is gone.?
She is only 22 years old. Regular pap smears are important ladies!
There was no cause listed. She got the HPV shot 3 years ago and is not currently with a partner (and has not been so for over a year).
Now that my cervix has been poked and messed with, I know this is not going to be fun for her.?
Send some prayers. Her appointment is next Thursday. ?

Re: Update: Sister with Lesions on Cervix
I'm 23, been with the same partner for 2.5 years never had an abnormal pap in my life until last month. Got teh gardasil shot last year. Dr. says I have high grade abnormal cells (lesions) too. HPV could have been caught YEARS ago and just now start showing signs. My dr wants to wait a few months and check my cells again. Sometimes the cells can clear up on their own.
I know how scared she is right now. I've been freaking out the past month. She'll be ok though.
Thanks for the post and good luck to you too. Her dx is low grade, but it seems there are good treatments.
She was initially worried about not getting to have kids. I told her we would "steal" her eggs now, freeze them, and I would have her baby when she was ready. That seemed to help her laugh and feel better. Truth is, I would totally do that if she needed it.
"Ute for Rent" ?
Wait, she has LOW grade and her doctors are already talking about freezing the cells off? Wow. My doctor wouldn't even think about taking action like that if it's just low grade. I was freaking out because mine is high grade and he didn't want to remove them right away. There is a LARGE chance her immune system will get rid of those low grade cells on its own. My dr even told me I had a chance of that happening with my high grade cells. I know it's best to be worried about it, but there are slight risks involved in getting cells removed. It increases your chances of miscarriage or preterm labor by 4%. And while that's not alot, I would think it would be better to just keep an eye on the cells for a few months first.
I'm just shocked that her dr wants to get rid of them as a first response.
I had medium grade pre-cancerous lesions that were just "watched" every 6 months for about a year and a half, and then I had them froze off. The freezing treatment is a biitch (think heavy heavy cramping while it's happening) but it worked perfectly for me. I haven't had any sign of a recurrence since then and that was about 3 years ago. They'll probably hold off on the freezing for a little while because it can shorten your cervix, thus making it harder to carry a baby to term later on.
Best of luck to her!
I did not know about the other side effects of freezing. Good to know.?
I am not sure how many stages there are, but she is "stage 2." ?
