7 Passenger vs 8 Passenger? HELP!!

We need to buy a new minivan.  We have decided to buy a Toyota Sienna.  Help me decide between a 7 passenger and the 8 passenger seating.  Give me pros and cons for either.  Any experiences with this would be great.  TIA!

  • I don't have any advice, but wanted to say how envious I am of your new van already! Big Smile

  • i think that the 7 passenger has captain's chairs in the 2nd row...which would mean that it would be easier to "walk through" to the 3rd row. ?i'm looking at the suburban and i'm going to do the 7 passenger option so that we can walk between the 2nd row seats to get to the 3rd row. ?i think that's the only difference...the pro is that they each have their own independent chair...i can't figure out a con. ?
  • I don't have the Sienna but I do have the 7 passenger seating in our van. I wanted that because with three I wanted to be able to easily get to the back and with the captains chairs in the front I have tons of room to walk through to the third row but there is still more than enough seating room.

  • Ditto the pp - we have the 7 passenger seating in our Odyssey and it makes it easy to get walk through to the back row.  I could be wrong, but I think there is an option to have the middle seat installed in the front ro for 8 passenger if we wanted to do that in the future.
  • Oh, 8 for sure!!!  I have the 8 passenger Sienna. I picked it over the seven because there were more latch positions, the extra room in the middle seat is a full seat - not just a small insert, and you can easily remove any of the seats to get the same set-up as the 7 passenger, but you have the option for the 8.

We have the twins next to each other in the second row. We still have the outside seat in that row, which easily flips up so that I can load my two year old in the 3rd row. That way I can flip the other part of the third row up for extra storage if I need it, but still have a spot for an adult to sit in the back next to the twins. If I don't need that seat, I can take out the outside seat or the inside seat, which would essentially be the same set-up as the captains chairs.

    HTH! I love my Sienna.
  • I have the 7 passenger Sienna, but I REALLY wish we had the 8 passenger. My DH was in charge of picking the van because we got it when I was pregnant and couldn't really sit in a dealership, and he came home with the 7, and I was so mad! The reason being, for me anyway, is that with the 8 pass, obviously you can fit another person, but it would also  free up the entire last row for storage for road trips. Basically you just have more options with the 8 passenger. It is a great van though, as far as minivans go:)
