Babies: 0 - 3 Months

how long should baby sleep in a bassinet in your room?

my daughter is only 2 1/2 weeks old and some people seem shocked that she still sleeps in a bassinet in our room. i thought they were supposed to stay in there until they sttn or need only 1 feeding a night. she's up so often it's quite convienent to have her in our room.

Re: how long should baby sleep in a bassinet in your room?

  • The answer is as long as it works for your family. Don't let other people's comments change what works for you.

We moved her to her room at about 4 weeks.

  • Don't worry about what other people say, or what you are "supposed" to do!!! Do what works for your family. It doesn't affect anyone but you and DH, so ignore their advice/ comments.
  • those people are dummies LOL

if I could have him in the bassinet for the rest of his life i would LMAO!

until they starting rolling or exceed weight limit or get too long. I think most weight limits are 22lbs and up.

  • By the way, DD still sleeps in her swing in our room. Not one person would say that's a good idea, but it works for me, so I don't care! I'm not moving her to the crib until she's too heavy to be in the swing.
  • We are just making the transition now. And I'm sad about it, but I know she's ready.
  • Just made the switch last week.  I waited until it felt right. I only made the switch because I felt that we were waking each other up.
  • DD is still in the bassinet in our room..she just turned 4 months
  • Ds still sleeps in a bassinet in our room.  He outgrew the one on the pnp before I thought he would, but still is up 3 times a night.  So we just placed him in another bassinet that we got from a friend.  I refuse to shuffle down the hall that many times a night.

I'd say do what's right for your family and forget what others think.

  • A little over 4 months in the PNP in our room......although I think that was too long because she was waking me up, she sleeps better in her room.  But I didn't think about moving her until she was STTN, it was just easier with her right there.

  • My dd is 4 weeks old and she's still in our room in her bassinet. We'll keep it that way until she's STTN or she's too big for the bassinet, but I'm guessing she'll be STTN first. She's very small.
