I have a baby's first calendar that provides these stickers for all of the big Firsts (sitting, first tooth). However, I like also remembering the other lesser celebrated firsts like rocking on hands and knees, started blowing raspberries while eating, started "hitting" the cat, first pigtails, got down from standing by herself, and on and on. (I know, I'm nuts).
So I just leave the calendar on my dining room table with a pen and I write down the "first" of the day (if there is one....usually there is something and sometimes more than one!!). Since it's just a teeny square in which to write, there's no pressure to sit down and write laboriously for hours (aka journal style). It's literally a phrase or small small sentence in each square and it's done!
I think she'll enjoy knowing this other stuff! And it's easy to stick to. Wish I had done this sooner!!!
Re: PSA: Easiest way to document baby's firsts
SO glad to know that I'm not the only one. Although I did get her first "dancing" on video last night!
You're definitely not the only one!! I actually lost DD's baby book and have no idea where it is. I was planning on actually filling out some stuff the other day and couldn't find it!
I do have a blog and I usually update when she does something, so I have general dates when things happened. But that's about it!
Oh too cute. DS dances all the time, whenever there's music on he's boogy-ing down!
Another one in this boat!
ditto
Another good thing to add in there!
Since this will probably end up being my baby's baby "book", I'm going to adhere a DVD of all of her first year pics on it and another with our favorite camcorder clips....especially of her birth and me right before having her but also of her first Christmas etc (maybe with one of those DVD pocket things). I know I wish I would have these things of me and DH!!!!!
Maybe an additional pocket somewhere to put a few teeney things like the ticket stubs MH and I got when we took her to see her first movie on our 1st anniversary (DH and I took her to a baby friendly theater on our 1st anniversary and we had no choice but to see "House Bunny".......I think it's sort of a funny first movie), our hospital bracelets, her first bday invitation, and other little things that won't be hard to affix somehow to the thing.
I have a very unfancy foot print somewhere that I can paste or clip somewhere I'm sure. Things like that. I really do not like to scrapbook so I'm talking really basic stuff here.
