2nd Trimester

Stretchmarks...

I will begin this post by saying, that I know they are genetic and that even though I slather myself with lotion each day I know I am not doing anything to stop/prevent them because I know that is not possible. I also know that it's a fact of pregnancy, and I knew I would get them (as i got them in highschool). What I will say, is that I am shocked by the amount I already have on my belly. After my m/c in August, I gained 10ish pounds, and through out this PG i have gained about 15 pounds. But the amount that I have is shocking to me. Anyone else shocked by the amount of stretchmarks you have?

Re: Stretchmarks...

  • I don't have any. I don't anticipate getting any as my mother did not get them. But despite what people say about genetics, keeping your skin properly mosturized can prevent them and/or lessen the appearance of them. So lather up, regardless!

  • I look like I gave birth to a pack of cougars. Sad thing is, my mom and grandma do NOT have stretch marks.

  • I haven't gotten any new ones during this pregnancy, but I got them with my first. I remember I was 38 weeks and I was getting an internal at my Dr's office and I said "I am so glad I haven't gotten any stretch marks!". She said... "well, sorry to break it to you, but they are all down here, where you can't see them". It bummed me out! I got all of mine at the end of pregnancy with my first, so I am expecting some more around the 8th or 9th month. Eventually you won't really notice them. All moms have these badges of honor (well, except for celebrities. GRR).
  • I am. I never had any on my stomach before but as soon as I started bloating even they all popped up. My stomach is covered now.. I don't even want to think about what it will look like at the end of this pregnancy.
  • I don't know ladies. I have friends that don't have not a one. They oiled up with everything from Mother's Love to Palmer's to Olive Oil. Belly, boobs, thighs, and butt, every night. I do it every night and every morning.

I hear ya, that is my concern too. If I looks like this already, what will it look like by the end. Ah the joys of motherhood.

and BTW, I am still continuing to use my lotion to help keep my skin moisutrized to help with the stretching....

  • I know I will get some, I got some on my butt in college (darn you cafeteria food!). Not looking forward to it. Still slathering belly with Burt's Bees lotion.

  • When did you guys start getting them?  I fully expect to get them since my boobs and hips have them from puberty, but so far nothing and my boobs and belly have done quite a bit of growing already.  I thought they'd have started by now.

My mom keeps telling me to get some kind of moisturizer called "mothers friend". She said she used it during her pregnancy and it helped hers "fade" because they never really go away..

  • I got stretchmarks in between my thighs right at the entrance to my vag during the last pregnancy. It's amazing what stretches! Oh and my boobs! The only positive is that they are tan colored, so that is a plus. If yours are red, they will fade over time.
  • I noticed one on each side of my bellybutton at 18-19 weeks, they were very small and minor.
  • I was gonna do a similar post. ?Right now I just lotion my belly with the same lotion I use for the rest of my body. ?My family has stretch marks and pre-pregnancy I had some on my breasts. ?Don't think I'll invest tons of money to buy creams to prevent stretch mark will just stick to the coco butter cream.

    . mommy has tiger stripes...rawr!

okay I acutally just laughed out loud at this comment and I choked on my life water. lol

  • my old pucks from DS have started to shine... I think I've avoided actual tiger stripes due to genetics, but my tummy even 5 years after pg with DS looks like a flat dimply mush.  they haven't stretched out with my new growing belly, just gotten shiny.  as a comedian once said "it looks like someone hit her with a bag of nickels"
  • OMG!  My belly and hips look like a road atlas, and I have lost weight.  There has been a definite redistribution of everything into my tummy area here the last week though.  I think I just may pop soon!!!

  • So far Im in the clear with preg related stretch marks. I still have the teenage ones on my legs, ah well. I slather vitamin E after the shower just for a lil help. If they show up oh well, if they dont great!

  • The only place I got them with DS was on my arse about 24 hrs AFTER he was born.  My mom didn't get them with #1, but did with #2.  I don't think the lotions are going to hurt a thing, but if you really want to try to fight genetics, water is your friends.  It's much more worthwhile to stay hydrated from the inside out versus just putting lotion on the top layer of skin.

With that being said, my sister went crazy with the lotion and water, only gained 20 lbs total, and has an entire stomach full of strechmarks.  Her's are fading (niece is about 6 months now).

  • I have three diagonal stretch marks just above my left hip.  I got them in week 14.

I never got them throughout puberty and don't have them any where else (yet).

I'm blaming them on my obsession with trying to sleep on my left side ... Smile

  • Yes but they are on my boobs! Tons of them. I want to cry every time I look at them!

  • Through puberty, growth, weight gain and genetics I have them all over my boobs, hips and on the back of my nees and arms. They all faded soooo light that you don't notice them.

I HOPE that the pregnancy ones will do the same.

I started getting them at week 4 and I SWEAR another shows up every day, and I have LOST over 10lbs!!!! It's like the belly is needing to grow, and stretch, despite the weight loss (and lotion 2X a day didn't help at all so I quit)
