Friends of ours got a "guess" from the ultrasound tech at their 12 week screening appointment and it was right. One of my books said the "part" are formed and visable by 12 weeks.
16 wks 1 day i payed for an u/s (with my mom in my hometown, only one she can come to) and: boy. 16 wks 5 days i saw my dr, didn't say i had been told anything re: sex, and she said: boy. we are 2 for 2.
dr told us NOT to tell the 20 wk u/s tech we knew anything, and see what they say.
Our U/S tech says that she has seen and been sure as early as 12 weeks. Its not the norm to be be certain that early though. At 15-16, it is definelty a possibility to know. I had one at 15 wks and she asked before doing any scanning whether we wanted to know. So, its def. possible to tell that early.
Although it is great to see boy or girl parts that really isn't the purpose of the diagnostic ultrasound. Yes, they check that and can tell you, but it is much more about measuring parts, checking spinal cords and all that, which is best done right at about 20 weeks. So us impatient mommies have to wait till when dr says to do it....which depending on your dr may be 18 weeks or like mine 20 because that is when it is best for the measurements.
Re: 17 weeks?
Ditto, but they do want to wait until 18wks just so they could get a better picture / get all the measurements done
My OB is making me wait until 20 weeks :-(
