Pregnant after a Loss

When you hear the name Kian...

does it sound Irish, or more like Hawaiian?  It's actually a really common Irish first name, often spelled Cian, but also spelled with a K, apparently.  (KEY-uhn)  What about an alternate spelling, Keane?

Also, what about Kyan?  (KY-uhn)  I love the nn Ky, but I'm thinking this one really sounds Hawaiian, just a little too surfer for us, maybe.

Or, what about a different take on the first name, MacKeane (Mac-KEY-uhn).  We really like Mac, but prefer a longer version, and can't settle on one...

(And yes, James is still in the running, in case you wondered, we're just trying to get a final list of options.)

I'd really love feedback on all of these, good or bad, thanks so much!!!

  • Honestly the name didn't conjure up any thoughts.. I would probably guess asian before I guessed anything else.  It is a cute name!

  • A good friend's son's name is Cian.  His father is straight from Dublin!

IMO, I think it's a hard name.  Depending on what it's like where you live, it might be a little too exotic.  Then again, I have never been to Wisconsin so maybe people are really progressive about names there?

    Good luck!

  • Sorry, I don't know if I have an answer. But I like unique names, so I have to say I like it ;)

  • Those are cool name choices.  We have a friend who's from Ireland named Ciaran (Keer-ahn).  Have you thought of that as an alternative?

  • I lived in Ireland for awhile, so it seems Irish to me. ?If I hadn't, I'd maybe think it was made up though? ?I like Cian best of those spellings.

I LOVE Keane! ?But would pronounce it more like keen and then that makes me think of the shoes.?

  • I love all those names you have.
  • I think Persian, actually, because the only Kian I ever knew was an Iranian boy.
  • Ditto for Persian - I work with a Persian guy named Kian, and it's pronounced "Key-ON"  I like it though and I've considered it (and I'm as far from Persian you could get)
  • I like Kian best, but I think that's because I've always loved Ian.
