3rd Trimester

not to be a greedy moocher but....

when did your registry stalking pay off? I am about three weeks from my shower and nothing is happening.  I realize it's not about the gifts, but  both me and the hubs are hesitant to go out an buy a crap load of stuff, only to get it all later anyway. If it were up to us, we'd have bought pretty much everything already, but everyone (friends, family) are like "don't buy stuff, you'll be having a shower" . I appreciate it, but I really would like to plan more than a few weeks in advance. Sorry if I seem like a gift grubber.Huh?

Re: not to be a greedy moocher but....

  • Both of my showers are the weekend of Feb 28-Mar 1 and there is only 1 thing off my registry so far.. so i know what you mean. i really need to get out and buy some stuff for her but i don't want to get something if people are planning on getting the important stuff.

  • Three weeks is nothing... Most people buy their gifts the day before, so don't worry just yet... :)

  • i would say that the majority of our guests bought off the registry.  but i looked at the registry after the shower to see what we still needed, and only three things were marked as 'purchased.'  i don't know whether they didn't mark the registry when they bought or what, but my registry was no indication of what we actually received.  ji was a bit anxious to get everything in place, but it ended up ok.  ust my experience.

  • My shower is next weekend (Sunday the 22nd) and no one's purchased anything from my registry yet. Invitations went out about two weeks go.

I'm hoping that this weekend is the weekend when people purchase things, but I have a feeling it'll probably more than likely be the 21st when most of the things get purchased.

So frustrating to sit here, though, and watch day after day go by with no one buying anything!!

  • People are slackers. You won't start seeing items taken off until the week or even the same weekend of your shower.

Soon to celebrate the day we met, even if the day before marks when we said goodbye.
  • oh my gosh, I dunno about baby showers (mine's not til March 21) but when we had our wedding shower nothing was bought till the weekend before and then not alot until like the night before & day of!  People are procrasinators, don't fret too much!

  • I remember some of the large stuff ebing bought the same day or day before of the shower.  That way they can wrap it right in BRU and leave it in their car and then drive to the shower.  Smaller stuff?  Well, maybe people are just taking their sweet time buying for ya!
  • I started stalking in Jan. My shower was last weekend. The 15 things gone in Jan were the 15 things at the shower...

It did not pay off for me. I'm glad I did it though, so I wouldn't expect any 'big' surprises, like a swing.

We are going shopping in the beginning of March for the rest of our baby stuff.

  • A lot of people shopped the day of my shower. Now, I have to deal with the fact that somethings have been bought (by people who missed the shower) that I'm still waiting to recieve.

What I did... a few weeks before my shower Target had a big sale, so I stocked up on supplies, saved the receipts, and set them aside. After my shower I went back through everything and returned what I no longer needed.

I also bought my bedding and a few other things myself and marked it off as fulfilled on my registry. This way they knew that I already had it.

  • I'm one of those people that waits until the last minute to buy gifts.  Either the week of or the day of the event.  Don't worry...3 weeks is a long time for gifts to be purchased.

  • Seriously about the day before is when things started to be bought.  I think most people tend to wait and I do the same thing.

  • I am right there with ya. Don't feel bad, but you also have to think- Most people wait until the last minute to shop- and not everybody buys off of your registry- and sometimes, if they do.... They don't tell the store to mark it off. Just be patient and wait it out- I know it sucks!
  • Also, don't count on getting much off your registry that is "online only". Which sucks because Target switched most of my stuff to "online only" a few weeks before my shower. Make sure your registry is full of stuff the can buy in the store... if you don't they are more likely to shop for things not on your registry. You can always take things back and buy your online only wish list (I know. I'm terrible.)

  • It is killing me too.  I just want to buy the stuff I need already!  Everytime I tell my mom "oh we bought our travel system today" or "we just got the changing table set up" she scolds me like I'm 8 years old and tells me that I shouldn't have bought anything because people will be giving me things at the shower.  My showers are at 34 and 36 weeks and there is not much off of our BRU registry.  I kinda just want to start buying things now so I can have the whole nursery finished and not have to buy a whole bunch of stuff at the last minute.  Oh well, I'm just going to wait it out.
  • My shower was a couple of weeks ago, and I seriously got two things off the BRU registry and one off the Target registry. People (at least those who came to mine) apparently would rather just buy what they want to buy as opposed to what we needed. I don't know what I'm having so I thought that may actually help cut down on that...I was wrong. I have more yellow, white and green clothes than my baby will ever be able to wear. Some are going back to be exchanged for things I'll need...like say diapers? Bottles? the list goes on...

ditto. I know what you mean though. I`m probley only having one shower (unless there`s another planned for me) and that will be a church shower probably a month after the baby`s here! I know a bunch of people will bring me outfits or whatever in the hospital though. You`re lucky to have one before baby! It`s free stuff!

  • The only thing that people have bought off my registry was the big items a couple days before my shower.  I registered for sleepers, onesies, sleep sacks, etc. but people bought them from different stores or went with ones not on the registry.
  • most people dont buy your gift until right before the shower.  Dont feel bad i really didn't get much off my registery because my family doens't like to buy off of them, so i got a bunch of stuff that they just basically found on sale.
  • I know I am usually guilty of waiting until the day of the shower to get something off the registry.  That's what happened with my registry too.
  • When you're invited to a shower or party - how soon do you actually buy the gifts?  I typically, buy the gift on the way to the party or the day/weekend before.  My shower is next weekend - Feb 22 and only a few things have been bought off it.  Where we live, most people would have to wait until the weekend to get the BRU because of it's location.
  • I didn't register, but if I was going to a shower i'm sure I'd shop the day before.  And, I've noticed that lots of people will print our the registry, but not have the sales clerk check it off as being purchased.  So, perhaps you did get tons of stuff taken off your list.  Good luck.

  • Many people do wait until the shower is closer. Its not like a bridal shower at all. I was suprised what was purchased off my registry. I won't no put too much stock into your registry being correct either. I checked BRU where I was registered and it wasn't as updated as it should be.
