It amuses/bugs the fvck out of me that some people act like your delivery is all about whether you were educated enough or not. Some of it is just plain luck.
IselaCid:
If you go into it educated and informed, you won't have any surprises. You go into it acting like a dumb girl and thinking they all got it covered without any education...it might not go well. Knowledge is power! (I never thought I'd actually use that phrase)

Would have to agree with you!
While I disagree with her phrasing, going into labor and delivery after having done research and knowing more about the options that will likely be presented to you is certainly not a hindrance to a good experience.
I think you can also reconcile yourself to the expericence you did have much more easily if you are informed and understand completely what led to the outcome you got.
Right? I think we all know the outcome is a baby out of the tummy but everything else is a surprise. Like, I read that I wouldn't be hungry and all I wanted right before pushing was a hamburger. Or that back pain only happens when baby is sunny side up. Fvck no! I was so not prepared for that I read at least ten books just on labor!
But since I did read I knew a bunch about breathing and different stages.
Amen, sister.

I think anyone familiar with my postings on this website know I am a HUGE advocate of being informed, worked as a doula FFS and had planned a med-free water birth.
But to say you will have NO surprises and act like birth is always peachy as long as you are educated is, well, ignorant.
I'm sure she didn't mean it that way, but that's how it comes across.
Believe me, that is not always the case.
Definitely not.

?ditto.?
Like I said, I'm sure she did not mean to come across that way. I did advocate those things before, and I still do. But I certainly hope I never said "no surprises." From my experiences in L&D, I don't think I would have said something like that.
To those who asked, she already has a child and I don't think she is talking out of her a$$. I just think this post came out wrong.
If you had an easy delivery for your first child, it's easy to assume that people who didn't have one may have not done things "right."
Um, right? ?I didn't take classes either. ?I read 2 books but nothing can prepare you for childbirth except already having gone through it, IMO.?
?
BTW you look amazing after just giving birth!!?
that is a recipe for disappointment.
i was educated & pretty well-informed, and there was a surprise at every corner.
