Round Cribs... what's the point?

So I'm looking for cribs. I'm behind, I know. And I think round cribs are adorable. But are they really practical? Other than fashion, is there a reason to get one? Just curious. What are your thoughts?

if you don't have a nursery or a very small room they are a good option. we moved when sophia was 1 but we lived in a tiny house and considered this.

I think they're more like a bassinett thing. I don't think they're big enough othrwise

i think they are super cute and wanted one originally. but then realized i wanted a convertible crib.

i think space is one component and looks is the other. imo, they are not at all practical. we got a convertible crib so that baby can use it throughout the years.

when we considered one we did find some that expanded into a day bed.

I don't have a crib yet either, just a bassinet. And I think some of the round cribs are absolutely gorgeous, but I don't know how long a baby can stay in one of those. If you find out, let me know Smile

I saw one that said it was about 3 feet on the inside. It seemed pretty huge.

They're cute, but I read somewhere (Baby Bargains, I think) that you should be prepared if you get one - the mattress and the sheets to fit it will likely cost quite a bit more than the standard ones... and be a lot harder to find (especially if you already have a color or pattern picked out).

i don't think they are better or worse. its just personal style. i really like them too but we found a really good price on a single regular style and i couldn't pass it up.

i agree with those getting convertible beds...but some of my friends said that they may not last as long as you think...some kids bite through the wood!! I was a little apalled at this, but if it happens se la vie! round cribs....so not our style

I think they're cute, mostly because they are different. They wouldn't work well in a small room (and DS's nursery is small!) so we didn't get one. I think they look kind of weird up against the wall. They sort of need to be in the corner, and pulled out a bit, away from the wall.

I think a round crib would be ideal, and if the nursery was a room that had "Queen Anne" type architecture, you know, with multiple walls or a window that extends from the wall like this: https://z.about.com/d/architecture/1/8/O/j/VictorianDover.jpg, it would look darling! (Sorry, I don't know my architecture terminology...) But, in a smallish square room, I don't think it would look any better than a regular crib... if not kind of odd. JMO.

Also, this is totally stupid, but my DH mentioned that they remind him somewhat of Hugh Hefner's round bed - and that just grosses me out.

I think if your nursery is big enough, and you like them, you should get one... like PPs said, the sheets, mattress, etc., are more expensive.

You're not late. We just finally decided on a crib in the last couple wks. Round cribs are cute in the right setting, they seem to be the new thing w/celebrity nurseries. But I don't think they're very practical b/c they cost more than most cribs and you won't get as much use out of it. I think the best choice is a convertible crib that can be used for years to come.
