Anyone take Terbutaline for contractions?

My doc prescribed some for me since I told him I had been having contractions here and there.  I have yet to take it since he said it can make you feel pretty yucky.

Well...I've been having constant Braxton Hicks for the past hour or so.  Nothing that really hurts...just tight and uncomfortable.  Do you think I ought to take some?  I'm worried it will make me sick and unable to work.

    I did not take terbutaline myself, but I don't know of any OB who would give a prescription for Terbutaline unless they thought you might really need it to stop PTL.  I would call the OB if you are unsure when exactly they would want you to take it.  It will make you feel crummy, but it's worth it to keep baby in there a little while longer.  I would call and clarify with the OB.  I hope it is just Braxtons and they go away soon.

    I've had a couple shots of it- once at 25w and once at 33w.  At 25w, it made my heart race but it wasn't horrible.  It did keep me up that night but it stopped the contractions dead.  At 33w I think they must have given me a lower dose because my heart didn't pound quite as much, and I also asked for something to help me sleep. 

    The long and the short of it was that it wasn't bad, and it's not something they'd give you if you didn't need it.

    I took it.  I had the shot in L&D, and then the pills after I was released.  I don't remember any side effects of the pill form (although I was having a lot of contractions and was very uncomfortable on bedrest, so I was not feeling so hot anyway) but the shot was CRAZY!  It made me feel extremely cold and jittery.  After I had the shot and was released from the hospital, I was told to take the pills for 4 contractions in an hour with LOTS of fluids (like at least 4 glasses) between weeks 35-37.  My contractions were painful though, not like BH.  Did your doc not give you any specific instructions for them?  I would call and double check what they want you to do, and definitely follow their orders.  Like Becky said, they wouldn't have prescribed them if they weren't trying to avoid PTL.

    I think I was given this when I was in the hospital.  If I recall it did help for a little bit and I don't think it really made me feel all that bad.  Now Magnesium on the other hand.  OH LORD!

    I was on Terbutaline and Procardia every two hours from week 30 till i delivered because I was in preterm labor. It was not fun. My heart raced constantly and i was super jittery. But I was on a very high dose along with the Procardia so that made it worse. It definitely did its job though and i am thankful.

    I took my first pill of Terbutaline today. I'm 33 weeks and starting to dilate already. Today was the first time I felt any contractions though. It stopped them right away but made me jittery. Other than that no side effects. And it is totally worth it if keeps her safe in there a little longer.....
