Anyone ever deal with a flooded basement :-(

Any advice appreciated.  If you used a plumber how much did you spend?!  TIA!

  • How did it get flooded?  do you have a sump pump?  is there still water coming in?  How deep is the water?

  • Um my guess is rain :-)  No we don't - it has never flooded this bad before.  A little water here and there but now we have 2-3 inches.  I am not sure if it is still coming in or not?!  It is still raining so I am assuming yes.  We used a wet vac for 3 hours and it seems like it didn't do much at all.

  • if it's rain and not pipes, you can call a carpet cleaning place in to suck out the water/moisture.  my bro used to work for one, now he has his own biz with environmental consulting.. has to do with mold testing and what not.
  • In my defense, a pipe could've burst!

Keep using the shop vac.  Once it is almost gone, set a fan up to try to dry the rest.  If you can possibly figure out how it got in, you will need to seal it and possibly redirect the water direction outside..  My DH has done that, we've never called a plumber but if you can't find the leak, calling someone is a good idea.  And when you do get it all cleaned up, look into a sump pump!  They are great to have.

  • I'm so sorry to hear! I hope you're able to get it cleaned up and get things back to normal asap.

  • Yes and it is a PITA!  If you can afford a company to come in and remove the water, do it.  If not buy a shop vac and a DE-humidifier. You do not want to chance mold growing.  You need to find the source of the flood before hiring a plumber.  It could be an easy fix or something hard like a foundation crack.(which was our problem)
