Another sippy cup question

We bought some Nuby handled sippy and have been giving to them for her to play with - along with bowls and spoons (the spoons are her favorite teether, go figure.)

Anyway, is there a difference (developmental or physically wise) between giving them a valve sippy (which is what we have) or a straw sippy?

Re: Another sippy cup question

  • i have heard that a valve sippy does help with language development BUT it's only a worry if she is like 2 and can't drink from a straw. you should let her start with whatever cup she will actually use. truitt started with a valve- he didn't like the straw. then, one day, we were at a friend's house and her son had a straw so Tru thought it would be cool to use that and he has loved straw cups ever since (but he continues to use both and now also uses a sport bottle type sippy)

  • I was told a valve one delays their ability to drink from a cup. Whatever - I wouldn't worry about it. There's so much contradicting info out there. I say try anything until you find something they like :)
  • I agree with the OP, I wouldn't worry about it. ?Orion only took the valve kind until recently. ?He was just not a big fan of straws. ?He's way ahead of the curve as far as speech, has no problems drinking from a straw, and can drink from a cup (although he's quite messy at this :-)). ?If Marion decides she prefers the valve kind I wouldn't stress over it. ?
