Poll: Anyone having their Baby shower at their own home?

Im having a terrible time finding a place that accomodates elders and my crowd as well and also parking with no issues, so now Im considering having it at my own house.

  • Umm...are you throwing it yourself too?

No, we are having mine either at a hall or a restaurant's party room...and my family is throwing it for me.  I have no part except giving names and addresses for invites.

  • I will be having mine at my house.  I am not planning it myself but asked my friend if we could have it here.  We haven't been our house that long and it would be a great time to show off the nursery too!

  • I am, but I'm not throwing it.  My sister and my mom are hosting it at my house--they were originally going to do a restaurant, but I didn't want them spending that much money on it, and my guest list is rather small, so we don't expect a huge crowd (maybe 20?).  So we are going to have it here (I have the biggest house out of them).  It'll be mostly family and just a few close friends anyway!

  • Umm no, my mom is having one back home where I am from with her friends at a restraunt. She is having over about 20 ladies for brunch. My aunts are having one here in town for me and I am sure it will be at one of their homes. I don't want them to go all out or anything and I like to keep things simple.
  • I'm not because I live far away from my friends and family, but I've heard several people do this/have done this.  That way, they can see the nursery if you have it done and stuff and just help you by not having you have to tote all the gifts home because they bring them straight to you!
  • Yep - just 2 weeks ago...but it was a surprise and would have never thought I could fit so many people in my townhouse!

It worked out well, though...at the end of it, when I was exhausted I could just crash on my own couch and there wasn't the inevitable caravan of cars to transport all the gifts from the venue to your house.

I will say I felt a little bad for my family/friends because they essentially had to clean the house since, while it was clean, it wasn't 'company' clean - plus they moved furniture so there was essentially another dog's worth of dog hair behind the couches! :)

  • Nope, just getting the ball rolling, my two friends planning are currently on honeymoon and 1st year anniversary, so Im just taking care of finding a place until they get back and can pick up from there.

  • Yes.  Two of them.

Our "family" shower is 3/21, and DH told his mom and my mom (who are throwing us the shower) that he thought it should be at our place because some of our extended family have not yet seen our house and could also see the nursery.

The "friends" shower is 3/28 (the following Saturday) and that one is being thrown for us by a few of DH's friends.  They are having it at our house because DH wanted a "couples" shower and because of the number of people now coming, we had the most room to do accommodate everyone.

I'm tired already.  (Very grateful, but very tired.)  :)

  • No, but I'd LOVE to.  Unfortunately, we don't have room for all the guests.
  • My friend just had hers at her house that her mother and sister threw for her.

Her house accomodated a lot of people.

She is having twins and the amount of gifts she would've had to bring home would have been crazy!

  • Yes, 2 of my friends are hosting it for me.  They both have cats and DH is extremely allergic.  So, instead of having to fumagate everything when we got it home, this way it will just already be at our house and be cat dander free (well, except for the gifts from those with cats).  :)
  • One of my friends is hosting a small thing at my house in April (only like 10 friends from HS & college) but only b/c its the most central location for everyone and it doesnt cost anything!
  • For our "co-ed friends" shower we will be b/c one the girls planning it lives out of town and the other has a smaller house.  It will just be much easier that way--everyone knows where we live AND we don't have to transport the gifts.  Works for us!  Our family shower will be out of town....
  • I might. My aunt really wants to throw it for me, but she's OOT... so is my mom, my sister, etc. So I offered my house. Of course, I won't be doing the planning, taking RSVPs, etc. I'll just have to vacuum.

  • I was going to - all of my family live out of state.  But, we ended up going with a restaurant in my home-town where most of my family are.

  • I considered it but then the guest list grew too large for our home. I think you should choose whatever works best for you and your guests.

  • Late on this but we are. My mom and friends are throwing a couples shower and DH requested that it be thrown here because we have a huge back yard. I'm so glad it will be here.
