Anyone have an early delivery due to polyhydramnios- extra fluid

Yesterday after finding out my cervix was down to a 1.9 and I was having a ton of contractions we found out that I had an excessive amount of extra fluid in my uterus.  The level was 31, I think 10-20 is normal.  The peri I was seeing did an amnio reduction and removed a liter of fluid from my uterus but we still don't know what is causing it.  We are doing tons of tests to see if we can find a cause but the Dr is pretty sure the fluid will return and I will need another amnio reduction in the next month or so.  Also, now that my cervix is so short we are monitoring the contractions and the fluid since they are pretty sure it is the excess fluid causing the contractions.

 My question is...have any of you dealt with this?  Was there a reason for the extra fluid?  How early did you deliver? 

 Thanks ladies, this has all been sprung on us in the past 24 hours so I am trying to make sense of it all and prepare myself for what lies ahead.

    I had extra fluid but never had a reduction...my doctor said it was caused by my diabeties and I had PROM at 33 weeks 4 days.

    i had a lot of extra fluid but did not need a reduction. i don't think my premature labor was caused by this. good luck!

    Welcome to our board, I'm sure this is very stressful for you right now. I had the opposite, I had low fluid and it was caused by pre-eclampsia. I ended up delivering by c-section at 33 weeks.

     It sounds like your doctor caught this very early and is providing excellent care. Are you on bedrest? I hope everything turns out OK and you can bring your baby to term. We're here to answer any questions you have.

    I had an early delivery, and polyhydramnios was only part of the reason why. My baby was not ingesting enough of the fluid because she had duodenal atresia and was unable to digest it. Because of this, I was HUGE by week 30 (I could have easily passed for 40 weeks), and she was tiny. I also had pre-e... I believe it was all related- very uncommon, but still related.

    I had so much fluid, my husband tells me that when they did the c-section and first cut me open. my fluid splashed on the doctor's shoes.
