So last night right before bath time, Ryan busted her head open on the corner of her bookshelf. It was right on her eyebrow. As soon as she did it the blood started flowing! I was in panic mode. I do not do good with blood. I was home by myself so I was a little nervous since we have never had blood shed. I was able to get the blood slowed down enough to get a bandaid on it. Once I had that on, Ryan was fine and wanted to go play. I was going back and forth in my head as to whether it may need stitches or not. I called my mom (of course) and she said to keep an eye on it and if it started to bleed through the bandaid to take her in. So as I was watching her play I noticed I could see more blood through the bandaid so I called my sister in law (mom of 2 little boys who has been in the er a handful of times)and she insisted on coming over to take a look. She told me to call our dr who happens to be a family friend so I called her at home. She said that even though the bleeding had stopped, there was still the chance of infection. She told me to take her to Children's Urgent Care up at Mercy Fairfiled. This was news to me since I never knew it existed! I was thinking I was going to have to take her to Clifton! The nurses and dr there were great! They were able to use the Dermabond glue instead of sutures. Ryan did great except for when we had to pin her down and hold her head still and hold her hands down. We were able to get in and out of there in an hour. It seemed a lot longer but I guess that isn't bad for an urgent care.
On the upside, Ryan finally had her 18month appointment yesterday. She is 25lbs (she got to stand on the scale this time instead of the baby scale) and she is 32 1/4inches. No shots this time! She is a happy healthy baby girl (until later that night:-)
Re: We survived our first trip to Children's Urgent Care! (long)
Oh, wow! So sorry Ryan had to go to Urgent Care, but it sounds like they took excellent care of her!
Oh, yikes! I think a lot of blood would scare me too. I've dealt with PLENTY of nasty bruises and falls, but never blood. Good for you for staying on top of it, and I agree that only an hour in Urgent Care is great!
I can't believe she didn't get any shots at her check-up. Justin got two, the lucky boy.

Glad she's OK!!!
an hour in urgent care really is good. When we went to the one in Anderson, it was 2 hours, but that included 2 rounds of xrays. I really thought we were doing well with 2 hours!
