2nd Trimester

someone please tell me it's normal

Is anyone else having really sharp ripping pains above their belly button ? I've felt this for 4 days now and i'm not sure if i need to go in and get it checked out .. i can't determine if it's "normal" pains or what but then again it makes me want to curl up into a ball and not move and inch .. it really hurts when i cough or laugh because it feels like its ripping more ... it's a sharp pain about the length of my index finger above my belly button..someone please tell me this is normal ! Or what they think it may be ..

p.s   I just started the pill prozac about 10 days ago and i'm not sure if this could be related & i am 24 weeks pregnant .

  • Hmmm... not gas?? When I get really bad gas it hurts everywhere! I can't even sit.

  • I can't say for sure - but if you are in that much pain it's probably worth it to check with your doctor. A lot of pains are normal during pregnancy because things are always stretching and rearranging to make room for the baby - but if it's been going on for four days straight and you are really in pain it's better to just check.

  • I had that yesterday on and off for an hour or two.  Mine was right below the belly button, weird.  Hopefully yours goes away!
  • There is no "normal" pregnancy. I've had sharp pains, but they tend to stay to the lower left/right of my ute (RLP pain). At 24 weeks, pain just above your belly button is probably ute pain.

If it's excrutiating, you should call the doctor! At least call and talk to your nurse. Don't let it keep going if it's really hurting you that bad.

Another question: Is there a reason why you/your doctor chose Prozac and not a more pg friendly med?

  • she told me it was the "safeist" while pregnant
  • My belly did this for a few weeks, dr said it was just stretching!!
  • Ouch! That sounds rather unplesant. I think I'd at least call the doc. That sounds like more than the typical twinges here and there.

  • well idk if popular means normal, but I have had a lot of those off and on during my pregancy. They often hurt soo bad it causes me to hold my breath and be very very still... they suck!!! Hope it gets better for you.

Hmm. That's interesting. B/c every OB and psychiatrist I've talked to, not to mention my psych journals, say Zoloft is the safest. But if your doctor trusts it, then I don't mean to worry you. I'm sure it's perfectly fine! But if you want, I would ask her next time, about Zoloft. It's a little less... "harsh" of an anti-depressant. (And it's what I'm on)
