Salma Hayek Breastfeeds African Baby

Actress Salma Hayek recently traveled to Sierra Leone to raise awareness about tetanus, a leading cause of death in the developing world. While there, she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of extreme poverty. Hayek, who has a 16-month-old daughter named Valentina, was moved to offer herself quite literally to a starving child.

Would you do it?

  • OMG! Did you read some of those comments? Talk about ignorance.

Anyway, yes. If there was a starving baby I would consider it. If I had a bottle, though, I would be more likely to give them milk that way.?

  • I think it's amazing that she was able to offer something like that to someone who needed it. I would completely do it, I was so sad when I didn't make enough for my own Dd.

  • I absolutely would for a starving baby.
  • If possible, I would pump and give the child milk that way.  By BF'ing, I would be concerned about passing disease between myself and the baby.

If I was to contract something, then I would pass it to my baby and I'm definitely not okay with that.

It may sound heartless, and it would be very hard to deny a starving child , but my #1 priority is my child.

I'm curious as to why you'd be hesitant to put them to the breast?  I think it's beautiful and I would do it for any baby who needed it.

    Agreed.

  • ABSOLUTELY!

I used to be totally neutral to her, but she just climbed several rungs on my ladder of opinion!

Good for her for helping that child.

Last week there was a post about 'would you bf someone else's baby if you had to' and we were all scratching our heads about what situation would warrant that... well, here you go.

  • I think that's wonderful, and I'm sickened by the comments on youtube regarding this. Who knew how many stupid people were out there!!

I'd do it. I looked in to donating milk, but then K stopped nursing; now I'm too afraid of my supply drying up since I'm EPing.

Sad to say, but I don't really like BF. I know it is better for DS, and I am committed to it for his first year, but I prefer pumping. I don't pump very often, but I definitely prefer it. And I get a lot when I pump.?

It probably has to do with the fact that DS is a snacker, so I feed him all the time. He will eat for 45 minutes at a time; either drifting off to sleep or babbling to himself between?swallows. The LC says he's getting enough milk though... Maybe it's because he's grown 7 inches since birth... I don't know. He eats all the time though. (lol, pardon my mini rant)

  • that video is so touching.  i would absolutely feed a hungry baby.  you would have to be pretty heartless to deny a starving child that imo.  i definitely have a whole new respect for her!

  • I think was she did was beautiful.  It brought tears to my eyes.  I have looked into breastmilk donation after my DD has moved to solids. All babies deserve a healthy start in life.
  • Of course. I don't understand how anybody could refuse to feed a starving baby just because they are uncomfortable with it.

  • I would do it in a heartbeat. Hell, the baby wouldn't even have to be starving....?

I have a totally newfound respect for Salma. ?

  • I have to admit, when i first heard about it I thought it was kinda gross, but after watching the video I've changed my mind.  Wow, it brought tears to my eyes!
