Infertility

Back from ER, only 14 retrieved

I say "only" 14 because I had around 30 follicles developing. I am just kinda confused how less than half of my follicles yielded an egg. I know 14 is a good number, I was just expecting at least 10 more. I just am nervous about the subsequent fertilization rate. I wanted more "in reserve." Did this happen to anyone else?

TIA

  • 14 is still a great number! Sounds like some of the other 30 follies didn't have a mature egg in them, which can happen. Good luck with the fert report!

  • 14 is a great number!!!  For my 4 IVFs I always had 11 follices but only got between 4 and 8 mature eggs - as several were empty.

Hope you get a great fert report tomorrow.

  • Well, not all follies have mature eggs - if the eggs aren't mature, they won't release from the wall of the follicle.  14 is certainly above average, and believe me, more is not always better.  In fact, more is usually worse.  I had my best fert rate on my cycle with the fewest eggs (11).  On the cycle with the most eggs (32), I had the lowest fert rate.

You should be thrilled!  Try to just rest and leave the rest up to your docs :)

  • I don't know anything about this since we're only doing IUI's, but wanted to wish you good luck anyways!  I hope this is it for you so you don't need any more reserves!  :)

  • Thanks, thats really good to hear.
  • I am sorry you are dissapointed.  Sometimes follicles are empty or the eggs are not mature.  14 sounds like a good start and I hope to hear a great fert rate from you.  Hang in there and good luck!
  • I think 14 is great!!!! Hoping for a great fert report!

  • That is a good number, not every follicle contains an egg, so maybe that is how the number decreased. Try not to worry and think positively for a good fertilization rate!
