WDYT Re: Boy's name?

So I've always loved the name Patrick, but don't like the nickname "Pat" so I'd like to use it as a middle name. The first name I'm leaning toward is Colin.

Here's the problem: Does "Colin Patrick" sound too Irish? Neither DH or I are Irish (we're pretty much just American) and I don't want it to seem like we are trying to be Irish or something. Or do you think people won't even think that and will just think that these are names we liked that happen to be Irish names?

I don't think it sounds too Irish. I say if you like it, use it. It's hard enough to come up with names.

I don't think people are going to label your kid Irish necessarily because of his name. If you hadn't pointed it out, I never would have noticed!

I like it. As long as you aren't too concerned about the popularity of Colin these days I think it's a great name.

I think its fine. Plus you won't hear his middle name all that often.

I have the same problem with the name Anthony - love it, but don't want him called Tony.

I agree. It's hard enough to find something you and DH really like...who cares if someone somewhere thinks it's Irish? I like it!

2nd names are just that- 2nd names. In school, their 2nd name is not called out. I can't remember the last time my 2nd name came up, you know?

colin patrick is a wonderful name. in fact, it is our #2 name choice. as far as the name patrick goes - my dh is patrick and he has never and will never go by pat - he goes by patrick and always has. i call him pat every so often as in "hey pat, can you take out the garbage?" but i'm the only one. if you love patrick, i would use it. but colin patrick is also a great name.
