Cincinnati Babies

DD's check-up at Children's was yesterday...

I took Madelyn back to Children's yesterday for a follow-up with her GI doctor. For those of you who don't know, she has been struggling to gain weight for the last few months. At her 9 month check-up, she had only gained 1 oz. in 3 weeks...

She weighed 13 lbs. 10 oz. She has gained only 5 oz. since January 13th, but her GI doc was happy that she gained a little bit. We weren't anticipating any surprising results, but at least it's better than just 1 oz! Big Smile

The plan now is to concentrate her formula, so that she is receiving more calories per oz. She seems to be doing ok with the transition thus far. Her previous blood work and stool samples came back fine, except for an elevated liver enzyme count, so they did that bloodwork test again yesterday to investigate liver/kidney function. Crying  Tears, tears galore! Blood work is no fun.

We take her back in 4 wks. for a follow-up appt. At this point, we are highly doubting Madelyn will get the green light to start cow's milk at 1 year old... however, we are fine with that as long as she continues to put on precious ounces. :) I guess we will have to see.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for your continued thoughts, ladies!

  • I'm happy that you got at least SOME good news.  I wish you didn't have to deal with the bloodwork, but maybe that will provide some more answers.  Keep us posted on your darling daughter!

  • Glad you got some good news & have a plan of action. I'm sure the testing was traumatic though! Madelyn is such a little doll. Be sure to keep us posted!
  • Yay for weight gain!  Boo on blood work.  I am hoping this more concentrated formula will help Madelyn.  Keep us posted on her progress--it sounds like they are taking great care of her!

  • Gawsh, I just can't imagine going through all of that testing!  Ava's regular shots are enough to make me feel terrible.  I really feel for you!  The good thing though is that it sounds Madelyn is in excellent care and her doctors are being really proactive about everything.

  • Well at least you got some good news.  She is a trooper as are you and you guys will make it through this little bump in the road.  I will continue to pray for her as she packs on the pounds.

  • I've been thinking about you guys.  I knew she had an appointment sometime around now, but I couldn't remember when.  I'm sorry you had to do the bloodwork again, but hopefully you at least had a better nurse this time.  That's great she gained 5 ounces and they're looking at her so thoroughly.  Thanks for keeping us posted!
  • You must be relieved a bit. I hope the liver test comes back okay. Blood tests are no fun are they? Hopefully Madelyn won't have to go through that again for a very long time.
  • I am so sorry you had to deal with all of that. It is sooo not fun to see your baby getting poked and prodded.

I hope that the follow up goes well and that the formula will help
