Re: picadillo recipe

  • This is my recipe. I feed it to Sophia and she LOVES it. Takes about 30 minutes to cook to perfection.

    • 1 small vidalia onion
    • 1 reg/small green pepper
    • minced garlic
    • 1lb ground beef
    • 2 small cans tomato sauce
    • raisins (by preferance)
    • green olives (by preferance)
    • white or brown rice
    • Sazon Completo or Adobo

Sautee chopped onions, peppers, and about a tablespoon of minced garlic in a pot - we use olive oil or canola. Once the onions are clear, add the ground beef or turkey and brown. Once the meat is browned sprinkle (to taste) salt, pepper, and a touch of sazon completo. Add the tomato sauce, lower hear to med-low and let simmer until meat soaks up a lot of the sauce. At this point a lot of people add green olives and/or raisins. We are not big on those in my house but I will on occasion add canned corn for texture. I know it sounds wierd but its SO yummy. That is all up to you, though

Serve over brown or white rice and VOILA!

  • DH grandma gave me her recipe, but I lost it.  So I started doing it from memory.  The best is the Sazon Accent envelopes... those things give it an awesome flavor!

Al ojo, I add powder garlic, salt, pepper, one can of NO SALT tomato sauce, a little bit of wine, a spoon of brown sugar (to kill the acidity of the wine), about 4-6 oz water.  Grandma adds green aji, but we don't like them.

  • I'm always in a rush when it comes to dinner, so I take a lazy approach with picadillo.  I brown it in a pan with a little bit of olive oil and sprinkle some black pepper (ocassionally, I'll use one of Emeril's spices to give it a kick, or put in a few dashes of hot sauce) and then I pour in spaghetti sauce (since these already have seasonings in them, the picadillo tastes really good).
