Bumpers are funny b/c once they start rolling around, you have to take them out so they don't accidentally suffocate themselves.  So, what's the purpose of them, then if they can't be in there to "cushion the blow" if they hit their head on the crib?

This what why we never used them. I didn't see why they were needed when she was completely immobile, and then once she could roll and then pull up, they were a no-no. She's just got a mattress with a sheet, a crib skirt and now, fabric teething guards.

    ?

See my take on this is that once they are moving around they can move their head enough to not suffocate. ?We removed them when he started standing. ?I didn't want him to use them as extra lift to climb out.?

  • We never removed them; they are still in his crib.

Double ditto.  Hers is still in her crib.  She likes to butt her head up against it and sleep with her head burrowed in the corner at night.  When she stands up in her crib, the crib is such that she can't climb over the railings and use the bumper to do so, so we haven't removed it.  If I see her (on the video monitor) ever start to try and use the bumper as leverage, I will remove it immediately, but until then, I'm leaving it in.  Does that make me a bad mother? :)
