we have the Svan and love it. we really wanted something all wood. this is and it has a much smaller footprint than the plastic chairs. it's also that fabulous Swedish engineering- you can use it to seat an adult in a pinch- it really grows with your child. it's very easy to clean and also much more attractive than the plastic chairs as well (imo, of course)
another note on the plastic chairs- many like the Chicco have the plastic padding. all of my friends who have had those *hated* them. where the plastic parts are sealed, there is a seam/crease that traps food and you cannot get them clean!
the svan has fabric seat cushions you can buy seperately. they're not needed for the chair, but they help a smaller baby sit up and they've just got to be more comfy. they come off and go right in the washer and dryer and clean up beautifully. we have 2 so that when one needs to go in the laundry, we have a spare.
I hate hate HATED our full-size Graco high chair. Crumbs get trapped in the creases of the fabric and it is nearly impossible to get clean. We got the Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster and never looked back. It is all plastic and dishwasher-safe, and straps to one of your dining room chairs, so it has a much smaller footprint that the big ones. Our high chair is my biggest registry regret!

I have heard good things about the Keekaroo high chair, which appears to be similar to the Svan.
I liked certain things about my Chicco Polly, but there were definite annoyances. ?It did seem really comfortable for him. ?Otherwise, the seams, nooks, and crannies were a pain to clean. ?I only felt like it was truly clean when I had taken it outside and hosed it down, ran my thumbnail through the ?tray seam, etc. ?Gross. ?This was really more of an issue once he was self feeding.... I recommended the high chair for a few months up until then. ?Also, the tray cover comes off and is dishwasher safe, but it doesn't fit in my dishwasher. ?It was a decent high chair - just a pain to clean.?

Forgot to mention that we packed up the high chair around 18 months and started using the FP Healthy Care Booster - have been really happy with it and definitely could have done it sooner. ?It's not as comfortable as a padded high chair, but I don't think that's a big issue at this point.?

Ditto 1000%%% This portable high chair is definitely the way to go. We use it exclusively at home now and we bring it to friends' houses, family gatherings and everything for him to sit it. I highly recommend it.
since we're discussing portable chairs, i have to plug this little find. this is the phil&ted's Me Too. it weighs less than 3 lbs, folds completely flat and can fit in a small diaper bag. b/c of the nylon seat (which cleans like a dream) it has a kind of hammock effect that allowed truitt to sit it in long before he was stable in restaurant high chairs. it's perfect for travel. isthe only portable chair that can go in a booth. i just love it. and it holds up to 50 lbs so you can get quite a few years use out of it!
the one concern is that you cannot clamp it on a pedestal type table for safety reasons. also, a table with a large apron may or may not work. it just depends. but if you wanted to use at home, it fits perfectly on a breakfast bar/counter.
We have a Boon flair highchair that I love, love, love. It's so easy to clean, nothing gets trapped. The tray is small (I hate big trays that get super messy and your kid can't reach all over anyway). And unlike every other high chair I've been around, I don't bash my feet on the legs (it has a pedestal base). LOVE IT.
ann's post made me think to add, we no longer use the tray on teh svan. it pushes right up to the table. it's table height and the 'seat' is not made on the 4th side by the tray, if that makes sense. if it doesn't, let me know and i can email you a picture
Just one thing to think about is how you'll use it if you go with a booster. Many of them are not height adjustable but that's not a problem if you only plan on using it at the table. We use DD's at the counter (she likes to watch me cook), at the table, and freestanding wherever I need her. I like being able to just step on the lever and adjust her up or down.
Re: Recommend Your Highchair

We have an Eddie Bauer wooden highchair that we've been really pleased with.
Having to do it all over again, I would've probably splurged and gotten a Stokke Tripp Trapp...I love those!
I have this Gracco and have no complaints:
