BF'ing moms - rec your bottles...

For the past week I have been trying to get Julian to take one bottle of pumped milk at night and he hates it with a passion! I literally fight with him to get one ounce down. I know alot of it has to do with the nipple of the bottle and how it is no where near what my nipple looks like. Ive tried the Gerber bottle with the smallest nipple they have and he refuses. The born-free bottles, which is what I got at my shower, the nipple is way to big. What did you guys use to get the baby used to the bottle?

  • I used Avent bottles for Riley. Of course i started with the #1 nipple flow and worked our way up from there. But she took to the breast and bottle from day one so I didn't struggle with her that much with bottles. I hope you can find something that works with him soon!

  • I BF and FF from the beginng so my daughter took the bottle from day one. But there are these bottle that are called Adiri Natural Nursers (they are BPA free bottles) That are shaped like like the brest. Here is a picture of it they have it at BRU.

  • We're struggling with this right now.  We got her to take Dr. Brown's, but we didn't keep up giving her a bottle and now she hates them.  We bought the Adiri (picture above from pp) and she hated those too (plus they are REALLY expensive per bottle).  We are trying the avent and platex next.... so far no big success.  Good luck.  If I learned anything from my mistake it would have been to keep giving her a bottle once we got her to take it the first time.

  • I used Playtex Nurser Drop-Ins.  The package I got had three different nipples, one of which is supposed to be better for nursing babies.  I tried that nipple first, and Cedric took it right away.  I  used the Playtex Nurser Drop-Ins until Cedric outgrew the bottle at about 8 months.

  • Gina used the breast flow bottle with madison. she was unable to breastfeed for an entire week and when she put her back on the breast it was like she was never off. so with my Julian we will be using those. they seem to be the bottle of choice for LC's aswell since babies have to do the same kind of sucking in order to get the milk out.

  • BRU now has them BPA free....just call them 1st to make sure because the one by me didn't have them but the one in pembroke had 2 packs and I bought both when i got there last week. I know you live down south so you may have more luck. if you need to anything at all email me gretelandangel@hotmail.com

  • Thanks girls. Gretel, im going to see if they sell them online. The BRU by my house is almost always under stocked in the bottles and nipples section. Its very frustrating to find anything good there!

  • we use born free. Did you try to have DH give him the bottle instead of you? DS sometimes does not take bottles from me (especially at the beginning) but he does take them from DH.
  • We used Dr. Browns wide-neck bottles. I found that the wide-neck was the easiest transition between the boob and the nipple. I don't think the brand matters so much as the style of nipple.
