If you're going back to work after maternity leave

Are you worried about what it is going to be like when you return?  I am worried that I will feel very out of the loop and that my friendships from work may change.  I feel like I will feel how I did when I first started working at my job ... playing catch up.  Any one else?

Re: If you're going back to work after maternity leave

  • I am actually excited to go back to work in terms of my work relationships... (Not the leaving my baby part.)

Because of my hormones and discomfort, I have been kind of a bear at work... And I seethe inwardly a lot...

  • I still email people I work with because we are friends outside of work too.  Plus, for the last 6 weeks of my leave, I'm hoping to work part time from home so that I can still feel like I know what's going on.

  • Me too! My boss got reported to HR because of the non-stop comments she was making about my being put on partial maternity leave after a hospitalization about a month ago. That and the fact that she completely changed my position and moved my office and changed my responsibilities (which is illegal). So I'm not looking forward to coming back at all!!

  • I do worry a little.  With DD I didn't go back to my job that I had before having her. Plus I took 7 months off before getting a new job.  I am not looking forward to coming back after 12 weeks.
  • I'm a little worried too.  I am an attorney and my cases are going to continue whether I'm here or not.  I will have another associate dealing with them on a day to day basis, but I have no doubt that after 10 weeks out of the office I will be playing catch up when I get back.  Plus, some of my clients need a little extra attention that the other attorneys here will not give them - they are not going to take that well.

  • What scares me is that, yea, they have to hire me back at my position and pay, but they can turn around and cut my hours or fire me. If they can get by with out me for 6-12 weeks, why should they let me come back? Reality is scarrryyy!!!!
  • I work in health care and some of my patients are pretty close to dying. I have been with them through the process so far and it makes me anxious to turn them over....though I know they are in good hands. Also I am worried about being less devoted to my job because I am too busy worrying about my baby at home.
  • I'm not so scared about coming back becuase I know all too well that I'll be getting emails and having to run up to the office with DD while on maternity leave!  I'm already mad just thinking about it.  I'm the only person in my position and everyone else is already too loaded down to handle anything that I do.
  • I'm a little worried about this too.  Mostly that I will be kept out of the loop on things and that when I go back it will take re-training everyone that they need to consult with me on certain things, etc.  I plan to keep up on email and employee issues (I'm in HR) as much as I can from home, so hopefully that will help.
