Can someone explain why you are told to stay away from low dose aspirin while naturally TTC-ing(without talking to your doctor first), yet in all of the IVF protocols listed in our paperwork low dose aspirin is prescribed to take after ER???
I am confuzzeled. Please enlighten me if you can.
Muchas Gracias y Besos,
Ricky.
Re: 'Splain to me Lucy: TTC & Aspirin
Because it's still a drug, with side effects, and should only be taken with your dr.'s knowledge and approval.
We've been doing just TI and my RE told me to start taking baby aspirin due to my RPL history. But she also told me that I should only start once I'd discussed it with her.
I agree with you Dr. L and I googled it and got stuff about some studies say it couldn't hurt....others say don't use it unless you have clotting issues...blah blah...
I am just confused because it is right there in the protocols and I haven't been tested for any clotting issues nor have I had repeat losses.
I was just wondering what other Dr's have told people.....
Some REs use baby aspirin when patients are on estrace. As a cautionary measure. Some use it for clotting purposes.
If taken for clotting/implantation reasons, it's typically used after O, not through the entire cycle.
I was never told to take aspirin - BUT - I took it the last cycle and ended up with the best quality eggs & embryos. The Dr's put me through the mill because I had taken Excedrin 1/2hr before the mega doses they put me on of Menopur (to head off the massive headache I would get), and had to go through a blood thinning test - but I passed it with flying colors - they would have cancelled the ER/ET if I failed it.
I will be using it again to give me the best quality - I am not so sure about all the advice the Dr's are giving me - much less everyone else.
This is a very depressing & scary scenario.
My dr gave me baby aspirin and was told to start taking while stimming so I'm currently on it. Does that sound off?
P.S. Aspirin has absolutely NOTHING to do with egg quality.
My RE put me on baby aspirin for blood thinning purposes. Apparently my endo tends to clot and "attacks implantation", at least that's the way it was explained to me. By taking aspirin, it thins the blood allowing for better implantation.
