I know I have read that some of you are using your crib bumper as something else, and I know I really liked some of the ideas but I can't remember them! (stupid pregnancy brain!)
I am using a dresser with a changing pad on top as my changing table. Its the in the corner of the room, so I am going to use part of the bumper to go caddy corner around the dresser to protect baby from the wall.
For the rest of the winter, I will also use part of it along the bottom of the window. There is a draft we haven't been able to fix yet. The bumper will get me through this winter and we'll fix by next one.
One mom took the padding out and made it into matching valences. One mom sewed hers together into a playmat.
I think if you have pictures of animals or something on bumper you could turn it inside out and sew around the picture, turn right side out and stuff (probably with the same padding that came in it) to make little toys. You could attach a washcloth and make a teething toy. Even if it doesn't have pictures you could sew the material into simple shapes. It would match your bedding. Just don't use buttons or anything that could come off and be a choking hazard - obviously.
Re: Edit: If you are NOT using your bumper as a bumper, what are you doing with your crib bumper?
Much to my mother's dismay I think I'm doing this. She's a nursery nurse and has voiced her opinion a few time on her dismay. ?

I saw a post about it a while back.
I remember these two good ideas:
