My dad has cancer

Can't believe I would ever even say that, but it's true. My parents told me last night. He has prostate cancer and they caught it very early, so prognosis is pretty good. He does not talk to a specialist about treatment until Monday. My dad's biggest thing is that he doesn't want me to worry. My parents know that I'm pregnant and I've had a loss before. They just want me to stay calm, but it's hard. I'm just trying to realize that, like losing my first baby, this is all out of my control. Thanks for listening.

  • I'm so sorry. What a tough thing to go through while pregnant.
  • Try to stay calm and think of the baby, early is always a good sign. I had a thyroid biopsy last week and I am waiting for results today. I will pray for your dad.

  • I am so sorry.  & very thankful they caught it early!

    We're here for you.

  • They caught it early and that is good.  I am confident he will have a full recovery.  This happened to a family friend and he is perfect today.  Hang in there....
  • So sorry to hear that, it must be hard to have another anxiety to deal with right now. But it's great that they caught it early. My grandfather was also diagnosed with an early stage prostate cancer, and he recovered completely (and this was over fifteen years ago).

    Stay positive!

  • I am so sorry to hear that. I am a cancer survivor and I just wanted to tell you that all of the advances in medicine and technology now are AMAZING...they can do things now that they never dreamed of just a few years ago. I know it's hard but try not to stress too much. Good karma is always helpful! Your family will be in my prayers.
  • Try not to worry more than you already are. I have known several men who have had this, had it caught early and experienced a full recovery in very short order. ?The recovery time and procedures to get at the Prostate Cancer are rather non-invasive and hopefully, if it all goes as planned, your dad will have a very short recovery period.

    Thinking of you.?

  • my dad was dx with cancer in 07' as well- he went into remission but it came back even worse a couple months ago- so i know how you feel.

i'll pray- just try & stay positive & be thankful that they caught it early. there are great cancer treatments out there these days so that makes me feel better.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your dad but it is very good they caught it early. I wish him the best. Keep us updated. Your family will be in my thoughts.
  • I'm very sorry.  I am so glad they caught it early!  We are all here if you need to talk.  I will pray for you, your little monkey, and your family.

  • My prayers are with you and your family! ?Just keep in mind the good news - early detection is better than anything later. ?Good luck and try to keep this in mind when it feels like life is spinning further out.
  • Thank goodness in this day and age doctors know a good amount of what they are doing.  Your dad is in good hands.  You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.  Take good care of yourself..and let us know how he is doing.
  • I am sorry to hear that! A guy I work with was also diagnosed very early and has had a  successful treatment. I hope the same for your father.  Lots of prayers coming your way!

  • I understand what you're going through...my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer this summer.  It will be an emotional roller coaster until they meet with the doctor and have a plan for treatment.  My best advice is stay positive and lean on your husband when you need a shoulder.  Your family will be in my prayers.

  • Your family is very lucky to have cought this early!! Hopefully all is well and it has not spread to other organs. (Unlikely given it was caught early). I wish your family the best of luck and many many years to come together.  Just MAKE SURE YOUR father follows up routinely once this is removed or taken care of sweetie!! Good Luck!! You are in my thoughts!
  • I'm sorry. My Dad had prostate cancer. We are going on 5 years of remission. I know how you are feeling. Just remember, stressing doesn't make it go away. The best thing you can do for your Dad is stay positive.

I will pray for you and your family.

  • My Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer the week DS#2 was due. They caught it really early too and with a course of radiotherapy (about 2 months worth) its now all gone! Big Smile He's had follow-up checks and his PSA levels are even below the normal range now which is excellent! Prostate cancer is one of the easiet cancers to treat. I'm sure your Dad will be ok. Its scary when a parent gets sick, but he'll be fine! You'll see! Yes

  • Sorry for the news.  Prostate cancer is actually the most curable kind of cancer. Over 95% of people with prostate cancer end up just fine.  My dad it a couple of years ago and is totally fine. As cancers go- definitely the best one.  Really you should focus on the baby and not worry!
  • I'm pretty late to this, but wanted to tell you that if you need an ear I'm here for you.

We found out last July that my Dad had cancer and it was the most devistating news I could have received. It has been a long road, but we received the wonderful news today that he is now cancer free!

I know you are feeling and thinking a million things right now, but the good news is they found it early and there is so much technology to treat this!  Hang in there, and again if you need to vent, I'm here.

  • I'm so sorry.  i used to work for a Urologist and when caught early the prognosis is usually very good.
