paci

does anyone's dc still use their paci a lot day and night? ?my ds wants it a lot and it helps soothe him as he has been very unsettled since birth. obviously he won't still have it at 5 years old but i just don't see him stopping using it anytime soon. ?on the view sherri was saying she was trying to wean her DS of his and whoppi said why do that if he's happy? and that is the argument i have with myself. ?i just wanted to make sure my ds wasn't the only 18 month old in the world who still uses a paci sometimes during the day and always for sleep.

Re: paci

  • My DS just turned one, still uses the paci a lot day and night, and I don't think he'll be stopping that pattern anytime soon. I'd love to have him weaned by 2 years, earlier if possible. If I took it away he might just lose his mind (as will I...). GL!

  • we just recently stopped using during the day. ?Sometimes she will have it before nap and usually always at bed time. ?If she finds one during the day, I just ask her to give it to me and she listens.
  • We use it every night and at naps.  I don't see the harm at all.  Not during the day.  I just leave it in the crib. I think it helps her talk more and express herself. It hasn't been an issue.
My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.
  • I'm weaning her off of it during the day as I don't want it to delay her speech. She still has it for her nap and at night though
  • im right with ya! our dd was only using the paci at night for bed and nap time- she didnt seem to care about it at all when i would just leave it in her crib. then we had baby #2 and she has totally gone back to the paci. she will pull the newbabys?pacifier?out and run off with it in her mouth. she will say babys pluggy and pop its in her mouth and off she goes.. so i would say no thats for the baby not you silly, and then she would ask for her own. UGH. i tried hard to avoid it but she wont give it up now in the morning she really wants it. she is a great talker and often during the day ill pull it out and say i cant understand you with the pluggy in your mouth. but that only last an hr or two and then shes whining for it. so im thinking once the baby isnt so new, and def when the baby is done with hers, our 17month old will be done with it for the day at least.. but shes content with it and i dont see the harm at this point..?

  • My DS is 17 months and is ADDICTED to his pacifier. I tried weaning him before and he was miserable and unbearable. He wants it at all times and cries for it. I swear it's delaying his speech and I'm not quite sure how to wean him from it. I feel like he will never give it up.
  • DS hasn't used a paci since he was 10mos old. I've never really been a huge fan of paci's. I would give it to him occasionally in the day if I couldn't calm him down (when he was an infant). And when it was nap time I would let him have it. Once I knew he was in a deep sleep I would gently pop it out of his mouth. I think that may have helped him not get used to having it. We only used the paci as a last resort if we couldn't calm him other ways.

Since Easter is rolling around maybe you could use the binki/paci bunny trick. Tell DC you're going to leave all the binki's in basket for the binki bunny! GL Smile
