Houston Babies

um. my kid won't eat.

Friday night- we went to baytown seafood. he's had catfish and shrimp in the past. wouldn't have either. Mashed potatoes are/were his favorite... nope. none of that either. 2-3 spoonfuls maybe? we even snuck some catfish in. so we caved and gave him some of our fries because he wouldn't eat ANYTHING else.

Saturday- mexican rest.- we usually get him the enchilada dinner or quesadillas. we got him quesadillas. he always eats all of his beans. 2 bites of ques. and no beans. seriously. so he ate chips.

Yesterday- i made tuna. he'd never had it before and hated it. fine. I made him corn dogs (his all time favorite). 2 bites, then started to spit it out. Lunch was a sandwich. he had it every day. not yesterday. 5 barbeque chips and he was done.

i know it sounds like i feed my kid crap but i'd rather him eat crap than nothing at all. however, i have NO CLUE what to do.

did i mention that i put him in shorts today? and he STILL fits his 6-12 month shorts? he's a week shy of being 19 months.

  • Ear infection? Teething?  Those are the only things that stop DS from eating.

  • My older one isn't an eater.  My almost 1yo will eat anything you put in front of her.  I'm with you though.....it's pretty frustrating when they constantly refuse food and/or only eat junky food.

  • I am sure that I will get flamed for this but if DS doesn't eat what he is given then he doesn't eat.  There have been a few times when he has refused lunch or dinner and he just goes without.  I know he is not going to let himself starve.

No flames here... that's typically our policy too!  (though much harder to enforce with the in-laws... They will try and feed her when we're all done eating... which ends in me being very pissed off... but that's another story. lol)  We also take away her food if she starts playing and/or throwing it.

  • Avery goes through this sometimes.  If I really feel like she isn't eating enough, I'll offer different foods - usually fruit, yogurt, applesauce...sometimes Goldfish.  Sometimes, she just doesn't want to eat though.

We do not have the tiny kid issue though.

Not flame-worthy at all.  I think you're definitely wise to have those rules.

  • If he's still sleeping through the night and not waking up because he's hungry.  I wouldn't worry too much about it.  If you're worried about him getting nutrient, then maybe look into some toddler vitamins?  We do Lil critters, gave it to DD when she was around 14-18 months because she was a picky eater.  My doctor didn't recommend it, but said it should be okay if I only give her half the dose (which is ONE gummy bear).  It's pretty chewy, but DD has had 16 teeth since the age of 12 months.  There are liquid vitamins out there too.
