2nd Trimester

Contractions at 20w4d (long)

Last Wed night I was having painful "cramps" that my Dr had me go to L&D to get checked out. It turns out I was having mild, irregular contractions that they think were brought on by me being dehydrated. Ever since I've been making sure to drink a TON of water. I've also been trying to take it easy.

For the most part they seemed to have gone away. Not completely but to the point where I only have a couple relatively pain free ones per day. I have noticed an increase when I do a decent amount of walking or lifting. Like while I'm at work. They're back to the point where I'm having 4-5 and hour and they're somewhat painful. I only work Mondays from 12-6 and Wednesdays from 3-6. Once I go home and lay down they tend to go away. Do you think it's something I need to call my Dr. again about? TIA.

  • Can your work put you on some sort of modified duty. I'd mention it to your doc. I'm assuming any type of contraction at this point isn't a 'good' thing.

I'd call! Good luck. Hope all is well!

  • absolutely, call your doc ASAP!!  Smile
  • Yes, I would definitely call your doctor...you might need to be on bedrest or something.

  • Sailor- So I have a question back to you. I have read a few of these where people get dehydrated and then start having contractions...etc.

So there are some days where I am so busy I forget to drink my water. And Ive gone the entire day with only drinking like 3 bottles of water. What did they tell you about this? Had you only missed a few days of not drinking enough water for this to happen? Im just curious for my own knowledge.

Thanks!! AND I hope it gets better!!

  • I would call - if you are getting that many contractions from activity they may write you out of work and put you on modified rest to prevent any more.

  • We are exactly the same! ?I am 20W4d as well and having the same thing. ?They sent me to L&D, but the contractions were not registering so they sent me home. ?I have about 2 an hour, 'round the clock since last Tuesday. ?Last night they got to be about 4 an hour for a few hours. ?They are uncomfortable, not really terribly painful. ?I called the dr. today and they told me not to worry. ?They said they are probably braxton hicks because they are irregular and not excruciating. ?I go in on Thurs for an u/s and they'll check me out then. ?Rest and fluids don't really work for me, nothing seems to keep them at bay. ?In fact, they are worse at night. But, they aren't concerned, so I am just relaxing and waiting till Thurs. ?Good luck!
