Checking strollers on airplane? Experiences?

We are going to Florida next month.  I'd like to bring our new City Mini Double (which would be WAY easier to use when we are down there) but I'm afraid of it getting damaged on the plane.  I do have a graco double that I could bring down instead but I just really don't like it.

Experiences?  Recommendations?

  • I have gate-checked my Bugaboo numerous times without a problem, so I wouldn't hesitate to bring your City Mini.  You didn't say whether you were going to gate-check or check it with your regular luggage, but I'd say you should gate-check it.  GL!

  • I've gate checked my light stroller lots of times with no problems.  If you're worried, you can always get a bag or something to cover it.
  • I gate-checked our stroller and it was fine. I'd like to think any stroller can handle some airline abuse. It's not like it's a car seat where a minimal amount of damage could have serious implications. FWIW, we got our stroller back without a scratch on it. I say take the stroller you like.

  • I always gate check my stroller, and I had a wheel broken off of my Graco Quattro Tour one time. ?Fortunately, it was on the return trip, and it only cost me $25 to replace the wheel. ?It sucked, though, because I was traveling alone with DS, and I had to get him, our luggage, his carseat, the diaper bag, AND the broken stroller out to the car by myself. ?Continental just told me they don't replace broken wheels.

  • We have gate checked our strollers many times - our Bugaboo, our Mia Moda, and our McClaren. Thus far we have had no problems.

  • Ok, this may be a really stupid question but here goes....

I haven't flown since I was 14 years old and I'm not sure how this works. When you gate check something do you pick it up at the gate when you get to your destination or is it with the rest of your checked luggage?

    ?

You leave outside the door of the plane, and get it back as soon as you step off of the plane.?
