Tips on cutting nails

Anyone have any great tricks for trimming an infants toe nails? It is a struggle each time, and I don't think I even get them trimmed enough.  I do ok with the finger nails, but the toes..forget it!

Re: Tips on cutting nails

    • Keep a nail clipper in the car.  When baby falls asleep on a car ride, remove sock and clip away
    • Bite not clip; less chance of drawing blood
    • Make it a two person job

  • I do it when he's asleep.  And it's rare that he's asleep sock-less and blanket-less, so they get pretty long at times.

  • I sit DD up on our bathroom counter in front of the mirror and trim her fingernails and toenails this way. She loves to look in the mirror, so it distracts her long enough for me to do it usually.

  • I just hold her toes pretty firmly as many as I can before her squirming is too much. Once that happens, I stop for a moment, maybe clip a fingernail or two instead (she is very patient with the fingernail clipping) and then do another toe or two. The key is to do all 20 digits at a time or you end up clipping every darn other day!!
  • My boys watch very little tv.  It's usually never on BUT I put on an Einstein video or Yo Gaba Gaba and sit them on my lap.  I swear I could do anything to them during that time b/c they're glued to the tv.
  • I clip them when he's asleep and I put on reading glasses.
