Baptist Childbirth Classes

These classes are expensive!  Have any of you taken any of these classes before LO was born?  Is it worth it or should I just buy a video or book?

DH says we should just spend the money because it's part of the experience of having a baby.  I'm thinking I can spend $165 on diapers!

LOL that's funny! I was actually talking to my doctor about this today, I asked him if he thought they were worth it and he said "to be honest I think you could just read about it instead of going to the classes and it would be fine".  I wasn't planning on doing the classes anyway because I've heard from a lot of people it didn't help them much during labor.

If you do go, let me know what you thought!

  • I know NOTHING about classes from Baptist but that seems a big pricey for childbirth classes. I wouldn't do it. I would go the book route and if you have questions come on here and ask the girls who have been there and done that and use your doctor for answers. remember every delivery is different and your doctor will be your best answer. As a maternity nurse I can honestly tell you that most of my mommies don't do it take them and they all do fine. I'm not trying to say don't be prepared. I would recommend parenting classes but childbirth is 1 day parenting is forever that is worth the price. just my thoughts. if you go on babycenter.com they have a memebership that has videos that can help you. I'm all for education but I think even if you do the classes at a different hospital it's alot cheaper. I know memorial (where I work) is ALOT cheaper!!!

  • i had signed up for the classes, but Abby was born the week before we were supposed to go!  Honestly, I had read enough and had enough advice from my mom and doctor to get me through the whole experience.  I had even gone in thinking I was going to have an epidural, but it failed.  I wound up going natural without any classes, and everythign worked out!  Honestly?  If I had thought about it before, I would've used the money that we were going to pay for the childbirth classes and put them towards a breastfeeding class (if you're plannign on it, that is.)
  • I took the classes at South Miami and thought it was a waste. everything they said I had already read about. I think most people go because they give you a tour of the hospital. But in any case, if you do end up taking the classes I recommend taking the ones from Mercy hospital. They are soo much better. Are you delivering at Baptist? Who is your doctor? I work there in the post partum side so maybe I will see you when you have the baby.
