2nd Trimester

Has anyone gone on bedrest?

Besides the  1st Tri bedrest, has anyone else been on bedrest in their 2nd Tri?

Why and for how long?

Re: Has anyone gone on bedrest?

  • i'm on bedrest right now...its day 4 and i will be on bedrest for at least the next week.  i find out friday if i get to return to work next monday.

i'm on BR because of a soft cervix.  i'm showing no other signs of preterm labor but my doc wanted to be sure since a soft cervix can be a possible sign of preterm labor issues.

  • I haven't been through this, but I was just talking to my friend who is pretty certain this week her doctor is putting her on bed rest.  She is about 24 weeks along, delivered her daughter about 2 months early, and her cervix is showing signs of shortening.  She has had some mild cramping, but when they monitor her nothing shows up, so they don't know if that is contributing to it or not.

  • I'm on limited bedrest as of 2/5.  I am allowed to work, but otherwise (this weekend and during the evenings) I am supposed to be in bed or laying down on the couch.

I had a cone biopsy in the past, which can cause a weakened cervix.  My measurement went from a 3.5 to a 2.5, and is currently staying at 2.5.  My doctor says if it goes below 2.4 at this point, I would have to be taken off of work and put completely on bed rest.  I really can't afford to use my maternity leave (5 weeks of sick and vacation time only that I have available) before the baby comes, so I'm hoping the limited bed rest (as well as the progesterone suppositories I'm on) will do the trick.

I return to my dr 2/19 for an update.

  • I was put on modified bedrest on Jan. 22, as a precaution since I am having twins.
  • I was on modified bedrest for 2 weeks due to low amniotic fluid. The fluid was much better at my last appointment Wed, but I've chosen to still rest as much as possible, just to be safe. And I'm loving having the husband do all the grocery shopping, get up early with our daughter and get her ready for school, etc. ;)
  • I've been on modified bedrest since 8 weeks due to previa, it completely stinks.  I can work b/c I have a desk job but that's it, nothing else and similar to others, need to be in lying down when I am not working.  I am hoping, hoping hoping that it corrects itself soon so I cna become a normal member of society again...
