LClaire

I was going to email you but maybe this will help others too.  I know that BG's don't really need prepping like prefolds do-- can I do an initial wash of BG's with microfiber inserts, thirsties covers, and fleece soakers all together?  And then since I have unbleached prefolds, I know that I have to wash the heck out of them until they're absorbent-- do I use detergent every time too (I have Crunchy Clean)? THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

  • Yes - exactly like you wrote it is how you can wash it all!  Basically, anything synthetic(the BG outers, pul covers, microfiber, fleece) just need one wash and dry to get clean to be ready. Natural fibers(cotton, bamboo, hemp) need more to make them fluffy and absorbent and to make sure any natural oils have been washed off. The ub pfs will probably need at least 3 wash/dry cycles - if, after that, they look nice and quilty and fluffy, you can call it good. They'll continue to get a bit more absorebent with more washes as you use them, but they'll be good to go for a newborn at that point so that you don't have to do a million washes. And, yes, use the detergent each time - and at least warm or hot water and hot dries:) Have fun with them!!
