Hi!
So...for those of you who are adopting because of infertility... on your homestudy, etc did you have to go into detail about WHY you couldn't have bio kids? or did you just leave it at "we can't have bio kids?"
I'm asking because I have chromosomal "problem" that made my ovaries undeveloped, so I don't make eggs. This can also cause some other health problems ( heart problems, etc)- but luckily, i have been fine and i keep up with checking on any possible issues. I really don't want this to affect the adoption... so I just want to know how much detail I really need to go into.
We are hoping to adopt from Korea, if that makes a difference at all. Thanks!
Re: Homestudy ?? for those with infertility...
How about spinning it like this is what you want?I mean, if you were THAT dead set on bio kids, you'd be looking at surrogates, IVF, etc first before adoption.
I told the SW I have PCOS, and that our choice was to try adoption before trying clomid, IUI, etc. Although we haven't had the first meeting yet, he seemed to be OK with that explanation.

They did ask us if the doctor's knew why I couldn't conceive. Mine is unexplained inftertility so that's all I told them and they didn't ask anything else. My answer is it's really none of their business and you can tell them whatever you want. I wouldn't go into full detail or anything. They did not ask us for a note from the doctor. We just finished our homestudy and our now waiting for the final paperwork so we can get started in looking for a birthmother. I wish you nothing but luck and hope it all goes well for you and your husband!!
For our domestic newborn H.S. we were asked about infertility. We did explain the gorey details (Male factor, and I have an anomoly with one tube and an unicornuate uterus resulting in required IVF and a high miscarriage/preterm delivery risk.) We were honest and said that we may do IVF in the future, but for now are just concerned about being parents.
On each of our physicals, our doctors noted that we have inferility. It was not very detailed, however. Hope that helps!
