Car seat/Booster seat question

I'm trying to pick out our next car seat and I am wondering if it is worth it to go with a car seat with a higher capacity, such as the Britax Boulevard which goes to 65lbs, rather than the Britax Diplomat which goes to 40lbs?  I know we will use a booster after that and most seem to start at 40lbs...

What are your thoughts and opinions?  Thank you so much ladies!!

  • I asked a similar question a few days ago. The post should be on the next page "Which britax?"

    Thanks melrrr, I missed it!

A little different than that discussion, do you feel your child was ready to move to a booster at 40lbs was the better way to phrase the question I guess? I would hate to get the Diplomat for him to outgrow it before being ready for a booster. However, I've found one for $100 less than a Boulevard and I would rather have one of these two with side impact protection.

  • I would go with the higher weight limit. A 5-point harness is the safest way to ride and the seats with 65 pound weight limits allow you to keep your child in the 5-point longer.  We have the Radian 65 and I love it.  It's not a Britax, but it has great safety ratings and DS is comfortable in it.

  • well, in my experience, I would go for the lighter weight limit.  We have the Marathon and I love that it's so safe.....but Maddie HATES it.  The day she can sit in a regular booster seat cannot come fast enough for her (the next 2 years are going to be loooong ones).

So as soon as she can sit in a booster seat, I'm afraid the Marathon will be retired.
