Re: Re: Special parking for pg women LIP

  • NOOOO.

We can't have another debate re: pregnant parking..lol.

  • I'm all for the "perks" of being pregnant, but I probably would never utilize it. Exercise is something necessary in pregnancy, you need to walk. I prefer to walk around everywhere. Sometimes I stand on the train for the hell of it, I've done this with all my pregnancies. So the idea is nice, but I wouldn't use it.
  • I don't care if it's legal. You will not find me parking in a disabled spot unless I am actually physically disabled.

  • I'm all for making more spots for pg women, but definitely not when they take away from disabled parking. My hips hurt when I walk, but I can deal much better than someone who really needs one of those spots.

  • Didn't we just do this last Friday? Any Bluesmoothee sightings yet? I hate that bizzo.
  • I think it's a bad idea because, as most of them women on this board have attested to, even a woman who is barely pregnant, or pregnant and feeling great, will feel entitled to park there. Then someone who is seriously disabled wouldn't have a place to park.

The fact that most of the women on this board feel like it's okay speaks volumes about their character.
And don't even bother responding because it's 5 and I'm out of here.

    Suck it b*tches.

  • I think it's crazy.

If you have a need during pregnancy to use these spots- you can get a temp disabled permit via your doctor and town. I have one b/c my job requires me to park all day long and sometimes have to walk long distances, up and down hills in some crazy parking lots, full of ice/snow - so my OB wanted me to have better parking while working so i don't over do it - only b/c it's twins (i did not have this with my singleton pg).

I rarely even use it as it is- only if there are no other close spots, and i always make sure i'm not taking up the last of the open disabled spots.

I think this law would cause a TON of abuse and the people who would suffer are those who have true disabilities.

ooh. Totally wasn't even thinking of that debate! Duh! I was thinking about just thinking about making it law vs. the way things are. Sorry. Forgive me?

  • Legal or not, I wouldn't use it. I prefer walking the 20 extra steps.
  • I would only use it in pregnancy if I were having a particularly painful day walking (none so far really), but I think the argument for mother parking is very true....but I think 1 year is too short.  It should be for all mothers with children under a certain age because when they start walking, it's a scare to have to hold their hands and not let them run wild in front of cars before they REALLY learn not to wander off while you're trying to transfer bags to cars, etc.  (The fix, though, is to just strap the kid into their car seat first).

And I agree with the end of the article that it would only be acceptable if they added additional spots -- not shared the same spots with the current disabled parking spots.

  • I wouldn't use it and wouldn't use the pregnant mom parking either. Personally, I think my fat ass needs more exercise, so I always park as far away as possible. I am not disabled by any means.
  • As someone who's both disabled and pregnant, I've gotta say fvck that! I've got Multiple Sclerosis and walk with great difficulty in the best of times. If I saw an able bodied pregnant woman take a spot that could be for me I'd hit her with my cane.
  • I have no problem with this if the woman is visibly pregnant. If I saw a woman who was say, 14 weeks pregnant and not showing, use one of the spaces I might shoot her a dirty look, but as a high risk patient I am on pelvic rest (no sex or exercise until delivery) so that space would be useful to me.

Not to mention our grocery store has about 15-20 handicapped spots and every time I go to the store there are no regular spots and more than half the handicapped ones open.

  • If you tell your doctor that it's difficult for you to walk during your pregnancy, they can write you a scrip to actually get a handicapped parking pass. If you don't actually *need* it all the time, then I don't think those spots should be taken away from those who actually have a disability.
  • Our grocery store has an expecting mother's parking spot, and I appreciate it because I have fallen several times on the ice there before, and the closer I can park the less risk I have of falling. I don't think it is appropriate if they take away from real disability parking though.
