Water Breaking...Possible Dumb Question

I had my weekly appt today with no change...cervix still closed.  So my question is ...can my water still break with a closed cervix?  Everything I've read says most women's waters don't actually break, at least not until active labor.

I was standing talking to a coworker went I felt something warm and wet.  When I went to the bathroom it felt like a gush, not a whole lot, but enough that it felt different.  It was completely clear, not yellow, like pee.  I went to get a pad and 5 mins later went back to the bathroom to take care of that.  A few more trickles.....I haven't had any issues with bladder control.....so I find that hard to believe......now I'm sitting at my desk....heart racing..wondering if I'm being paranoid or if it's finally that time (3 weeks early of course).

Help!!!????

  • I would just call doc back to go in and get checked.
  • call your doctor! it could be water break, she can do a scan and see if you are leaking
  • I woke up to this same thing at 2 am - it ended up not being my water, but some other fluid (doc said could be several things).  I posted below about it.  Just call them and let them check you.  There are several tests they do to see if it is amniotic fluid or not.  Apparantly your cervical mucous can get really watery at this stage in pregnancy.
  • Go in and get checked.
  • Thank you ladies!

  • When my water broke, I wasn't sure if that was what it was.  I was pretty sure, but mostly it just felt like I needed to pee.  I didn't get any contractions or anything, so I went into the doctor's office the following morning to get checked out and sure enough, my water had broken.  It can be hard to tell the difference, so definitely call and get checked out.
