WDYT: Is this rude?

So two weeks ago DH and I agreed that we would go down to DC tonight and go out to dinner for a friend's birthday.  I just looked up reviews for the place and everything says the food is "OK, but not great" but that the place is awesome because of the drink selection and "hipster attitude".  I'm not sure what a hipster attitude means, but I feel like I am not going to enjoy myself.  Looking at the menu it seems like the food is super pretentious and I'm guessing the prices will be through the roof.  Is it rude if I eat before-hand and then just get an appetizer or something and then bail when everyone is finished eating?

Re: WDYT: Is this rude?

  • I don't think it would be rude, he afterall you are pregnant, you can always pull that card out! Stick out tongue

  • I don't think so! You can always use the I'm pregnant excuse! hahaha
  • No, just say you can only eat an appetizer b/c your stomach is so smooshed, the capacity is decreased. You can always find a way to blame something on pregnancy.
  • no! not rude at all, no one has to know!

i do that all the time, cause my girlfriends (not married,no kids, still live in their studio apartments that mommy and daddy pay for) love those stupid resturants, i hate them, cause they are over priced, and well, like a string bean for dinner.

i usually eat before! go for it!

(i sometimes ask for a seperate check, just cause all of them drink-and obviously i don't, and i'm not paying for the 15 lemon drops they had!)

have fun though!, well at least try!

  • Definitely eat before!  That way you won't be miserable during dinner.

  • I say that it isn't rude.  You can always blame it on the baby Wink  Say you were starving and just couldn't wait or you were totally craving something and you just had to eat it or that your tastes for food are so weird you weren't sure you could find something you would like.

We went out to eat with a bunch of friends last week (sort of late in the evening) and one of our friends had already eaten and just hung out with us and had a few drinks while we ate.  I didn't think twice about it and we had a blast.

  • Not rude at all!  As pp said, you can pull the pg card.
  • I don't see a problem with ordering an appetizer as dinner, I do that all the time! And yeah, I'm not so big on hanging out at trendy restaurant bars right now so I hear you on leaving after dinner is done.

  • Out of curiousity, which restaurant is it?  We used to live in DC and are going there this weekend too, in fact.
